A chat with Dr. Devi Shetty
(Heart Specialist)Bangalor e was arranged by WIPRO for
its employees. The transcript of the chat is given
below. Useful for everyone.
Qn: What are the thumb rules for a layman to take care
of his heart ?
Ans:
1. Diet - Less of carbohydrate, more of protein, less
oil
2. Exercise - Half an hour's walk, at least five days
a week; avoid lifts and avoid sitting for a longtime
3. Quit smoking
4. Control weight
5. Control blood pressure and sugar
Qn: Is eating non-veg food (fish) good for the heart?
Ans: No
Qn: It's still a grave shock to hear that some
apparently healthy person gets a cardiac arrest. How
do we understand it in perspective?
Ans: This is called silent attack; that is why we
recommend everyone past the age of 30 to undergo
routine health checkups.
Qn: Are heart diseases hereditary?
Ans: Yes
Qn: What are the ways in which the heart is stressed?
What practices do you suggest to de-stress?
Ans: Change your attitude towards life. Do not look
for perfection in everything in life.
Qn: Is walking better than jogging or is more
intensive exercise required to keep a healthy heart?
Ans: Walking is better than jogging since jogging
leads to early fatigue and injury to joints .
Qn: You have done so much for the poor and needy. What
has inspired you to do so?
Ans: Mother Theresa , who was my patient.
Qn: Can people with low blood pressure suffer heart
diseases?
Ans: Extremely rare
Qn: Does cholesterol accumulates right from an early
age (I'm currently only 22) or do you have to worry
about it only after you are above 30 years of age?
Ans: Cholesterol accumulates from childhood.
Qn: How do irregular eating habits affect the heart ?
Ans: You tend to eat junk food when the habits are
irregular and your body's enzyme release for digestion
gets confused.
Qn: How can I control cholesterol content without
using medicines?
Ans: Control diet, walk and eat walnut.
Qn: Can yoga prevent heart ailments?
Ans: Yoga helps.
Qn: Which is the best and worst food for the heart?
Ans: Fruits and vegetables are the best and the worst
is oil.
Qn: Which oil is better - groundnut, sunflower, olive?
Ans: All oils are bad .
Qn: What is the routine checkup one should go through?
Is there any specific test?
Ans: Routine blood test to ensure sugar, cholesterol
is ok. Check BP, Treadmill test after an echo.
Qn: What are the first aid steps to be taken on a
heart attack?
Ans: Help the person into a sleeping position , place
an aspirin tablet under the tongue with a sorbitrate
tablet if available, and rush him to a coronary care
unit since the maximum casualty takes place within the
first hour.
Qn: How do you differentiate between pain caused by a
heart attack and that caused due to gastric trouble?
Ans: Extremely difficult without ECG.
Qn: What is the main cause of a steep increase in
heart problems amongst youngsters? I see people of
about 30-40 yrs of age having heart attacks and
serious heart problems.
Ans: Increased awareness has increased incidents.
Also, sedentary lifestyles, smoking, junk food, lack
of exercise in a country where people are genetically
three times more vulnerable for heart attacks than
Europeans and Americans.
Qn: Is it possible for a person to have BP outside the
normal range of 120/80 and yet be perfectly healthy?
Ans: Yes.
Qn: Marriages within close relatives can lead to heart
problems for the child. Is it true?
Ans : Yes, co-sanguinity leads to congenital
abnormalities and you may not have a software engineer
as a child
Qn: Many of us have an irregular daily routine and
many a times we have to stay late nights in office.
Does this affect our heart ? What precautions would
you recommend?
Ans : When you are young, nature protects you against
all these irregularities. However, as you grow older,
respect the biological clock.
Qn: Will taking anti-hypertensive drugs cause some
other complications (short / long term)?
Ans : Yes, most drugs have some side effects. However,
modern anti-hypertensive drugs are extremely safe.
Qn: Will consuming more coffee/tea lead to heart
attacks?
Ans : No.
Qn: Are asthma patients more prone to heart disease?
Ans : No.
Qn: How would you define junk food?
Ans : Fried food like Kentucky , McDonalds , samosas,
and even masala dosas.
Qn: You mentioned that Indians are three times more
vulnerable. What is the reason for this, as Europeans
and Americans also eat a lot of junk food?
Ans: Every race is vulnerable to some disease and
unfortunately, Indians are vulnerable for the most
expensive disease.
Qn: Does consuming bananas help reduce hypertension?
Ans : No.
Qn: Can a person help himself during a heart attack
(Because we see a lot of forwarded emails on this)?
Ans : Yes. Lie down comfortably and put an aspirin
tablet of any description under the tongue and ask
someone to take you to the nearest coronary care unit
without any delay and do not wait for the ambulance
since most of the time, the ambulance does not turn
up.
Qn: Do, in any way, low white blood cells and low
hemoglobin count lead to heart problems?
Ans : No. But it is ideal to have normal hemoglobin
level to increase your exercise capacity.
Qn: Sometimes, due to the hectic schedule we are not
able to exercise. So, does walking while doing daily
chores at home or climbing the stairs in the house,
work as a substitute for exercise?
Ans : Certainly. Avoid sitting continuously for more
than half an hour and even the act of getting out of
the chair and going to another chair and sitting helps
a lot.
Qn: Is there a relation between heart problems and
blood sugar?
Ans: Yes. A strong relationship since diabetics are
more vulnerable to heart attacks than non-diabetics.
Qn: What are the things one needs to take care of
after a heart operation?
Ans : Diet, exercise, drugs on time , Control
cholesterol, BP, weight.
Qn: Are people working on night shifts more vulnerable
to heart disease when compared to day shift workers?
Ans : No.
Qn: What are the modern anti-hypertensive drugs?
Ans : There are hundreds of drugs and your doctor will
chose the right combination for your problem, but my
suggestion is to avoid the drugs and go for natural
ways of controlling blood pressure by walk, diet to
reduce weight and changing attitudes towards
lifestyles.
Qn: Does dispirin or similar headache pills increase
the risk of heart attacks?
Ans : No.
Qn: Why is the rate of heart attacks more in men than
in women?
Ans : Nature protects women till the age of 45.
Qn: How can one keep the heart in a good condition?
Ans : Eat a healthy diet, avoid junk food, exercise
everyday, do not smoke and, go for health checkups if
you are past the age of 30 ( once in six months
recommended) ...
Reflection of life
Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams: "AAAhhhhhhhhhhh! !!"
To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating,
somewhere in the mountain:
"AAAhhhhhhhhhhh! !!"
Curious, the little boy yells: "Who are you?"
He receives the answer: "Who are you?"
And then the boy screams to the mountain: "You're Stupid"
The voice answers: "You're Stupid"
Frustrated at the response, the boy screams: "I Hate You"
He receives the answer: "I Hate You"
He looks to his father and asks: "What's going on?"
The father smiles and says: "My son, pay attention."
The man screams: "You are a champion!"
The voice answers: "You are a champion!"
The boy is surprised, but does not understand.
Then the father explains: "People call this ECHO, but
really this is LIFE. It gives you back everything you
say or do. Our life is simply a reflection of our actions.
If you want more love in the world, create
more love in your heart. If you want people
to respect you, respect them.
This relationship applies to everything, in all
aspects of life. Life will give you back everything you have given to it.
Your Life is not a Coincidence.
It's a Reflection of You!
Some Thought to ponder about
When we are born, our mother's get the compliments and the flowers.
When we are married, our brides get the presents and the publicity.
When we die, our widows get the life insurance.
What do women want to be liberated from?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought 2 #
The average man's life consists of:
Twenty years of having his mother ask him where he is going,
Forty years of having his wife ask the same question;
and at the end, the mourners wondering too.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thought 3 #
A Man was walking down a street when he heard a voice from behind, "If you
take one more step, a brick will fall down on your head and kill you." The
man stopped and a big brick fell right in front of him. The man was
astonished.
He went on, and after a while he was going to cross the road. Once again
the voice shouted, "Stop! Stand still! If you take one more step a car will
run over you, and you will die." The man did as he was instructed, just as
a car came careening around the corner, barely missing him.
The man asked. "Who are you?" I am your guardian angel," the voice
answered. "Oh, yeah?" the man asked "And where the hell were you when I got
married?"
----------------------------- ---------------------------
This is the best!!! Thought 4 #
Everyone in the wedding ceremony was watching the radiant bride as her
father escorted her down the aisle to give away to the groom. They reached
the altar and the waiting groom; the bride kissed her father and placed
some thing in his hand.
Everyone in the room was wondering what was given to the father by the
bride. The father could feel the suspense in the air and all eyes were on
him to divulge the secret and say something.
So he announced "Ladies and Gentlemen today is the luckiest day of my
life."
Then he raised his hands with what his daughter gave him and continued, "My
daughter finally returned my credit card to me. "The whole Audience
including priest started laughing :
DATING VS. MARRIAGE
When you are married ....He brings home a 6 pack, and says "What are you going to drink?"
When you are dating..... He holds your hand in public.
When you are married ....He flicks your ear in public.
When you are dating..... A Single bed for 2 isn't THAT bad.
When you are married ....A King size bed feels like an army cot.
When you are dating..... You are turned on at the sight of him naked.
When you are married ....You think to yourself "Was he ALWAYS this hairy????"
When you are dating..... You enjoyed foreplay.
When you are married ....You tell him "If we have sex, will you leave me alone???"
When you are dating..... He hugs you, when he walks by you for no reason.
When you are married ....He grabs your boob any chance he gets.
When you are dating..... You picture the two of you together, growing old together.
When you are married ....You wonder who will die first.
When you are dating..... Just looking at him makes you feel all "mushy."
When you are married ....When you look at him, you want to claw his eyes out.
When you are dating..... He knows what the "hamper" is.
When you are married ....The floor will suffice as a dirty clothes storage area.
When you are dating..... He understands if you "Aren't in the mood."
When you are married ....He says "It's your job."
When you are dating..... He understands that you have "male" friends.
When you are married ....He thinks they are all out to steal you away.
When you are dating..... He likes to "discuss" things.
When you are married ....He develops a "blank" stare.
When you are dating..... He calls you by name.
When you are married ....He calls you "Hey" and refers to you when speaking to others as "She."

Devil's most 'used' instrument
It was advertised that the devil was going to put his tools up for sale. On the date of the sale, the tools were placed for public inspection; each tool being marked with its sale price.
They were a treacherous lot of implements.. . Hatred, Envy, Jealousy, Deceit, Lying, Pride, and so on.
Laid apart from the rest was a harmless looking tool, that appeared to have been heavily used, and was priced very high.
"What is the name of this tool?" asked one of the purchasers, pointing to it. "That is Discouragement, " replied the devil.
"Why have you priced it so high?"
"Because it is more useful to me than all the others. I can pry open and get inside people's hearts with that when I cannot get near them with my other tools. Once I get inside, I can make them do what I choose. It is badly worn because I use it on almost everyone, since very few people know that it belongs to me."
Never get discouraged! Keep your head up keep the faith!

Life Simple lesson
We may not always realize
that every thing we do,
affects not only our lives,
but touches others, too.
For a little bit of thoughtfulness
that shows someone you care,
creates a ray of sunshine
for both of you to share.
Yes, every time you offer
someone a helping hand,
you show a friend,
you care and understand.
Every time you have
a kind and gentle word to give,
you help someone find beauty
in this precious life we live.
and loving ways bring love,
and giving is the treasure
that contentment is made of.

Lover's Deep Agnoy
Please don't walk away from me,
It will surely be my end.
You have been my true love,
My soul mate and best friend.
I know that your soul is tortured,
As my spirit is crumbling too.
We have been apart far too long,
My heart aches to be with you.
Every day that passes by,
I think of the miles between us.
Wanting to conquer all these obstacles.
Yet feeling so very powerless.
Being in slumber all alone.
Only dreaming our dream we have,
A life together of our very own.
All the moments that we have shared,
Have been so precious and too few.
If only we could be together again,
Our love could flourish and sparkle anew.
I have prayed so much and hoped,
That fate should be so kind.
To bring the two of us together again,
Completely in body, soul, and mind.
Always easier said than done.
Never forget all we have and share together,
As one day, we'll forever be as one.
The greatest pain in life
To lose the person you love so much to another who doesn't care at all.
To have someone you care so about so much throw a party...
and not tell you about it.
When your favorite person on earth neglects to invite you to his graduation.
To have people think that you don't care.
The greatest pain in life, is not to die, but to be forgotten.
To be left in the dust after another's great achievement.
To never get a call from a friend, just saying "hi".
When you show someone your innermost thoughts and they laugh in your face.
For friends to always be too busy to console you when you need someone to lift your spirits.
When it seems like the only person who cares about you, is you.
Life is full of pain, but does it ever get better?
Will people ever care about each other, and make time for those who are in need?
Each of us has a part to play in this great show we call life.
Each of us has a duty to mankind to tell our friends we love them.
If you do not care about your friends you will not be punished.
You will simply be ignored...
forgotten...
as you have done to others.
Joy forever
Joy Where There is Nothing When you can find joy where there is nothing,
You can find joy in anything.
Place no conditions on happiness,
And it is always yours.
Embrace the uncertainty of the future,
For within that uncertainty is limitless,
Fertile ground for creating beauty, joy and fulfillment.
When you no longer need security, you will indeed have it.
Accept that you do not know,
And there is no limit to what you can learn.
Let go of the need to possess,
And there is no end to what you can have.
There is a universe filled with beauty
In each tiny grain of sand.
There is a lifetime of experience
In every small moment of the day.
Be true to your purpose and fulfillment will find you.
With what you have to give,
You can reach all you could ever imagine to seek.
See the joy where there is nothing,
And everywhere else as well.
Live the beauty that is now,
And truly know the abundant richness that is life.
Steps To Happiness
Everybody Knows: You can't be all things to all people.
You can't do all things at once.
You can't do all things equally well.
You can't do all things better than everyone else.
Your humanity is showing just like everyone else's.
So:You have to find out who you are, and be that.
You have to decide what comes first, and do that.
You have to discover your strengths, and use them.
You have to learn not to compete with others,Because no one else is in the contest of *being you*.
Then:You will have learned to accept your own uniqueness.
You will have learned to set priorities and make decisions.
You will have learned to live with your limitations.
You will have learned to give yourself the respect that is due.
And you'll be a most vital mortal.
Dare To Believe:That you are a wonderful, unique person.
That you are a once-in-all-history event.
That it's more than a right, it's your duty, to be who you are.
That life is not a problem to solve, but a gift to cherish.
And we'll be able to stay one up on what used to get us.
May God Bless you and keep you safe.
Father-in- law --- Advise
A man asked his father-in-law, "Many people praised you for a
successful marriage. Would it be please possible for you to share
with me your secret?"
.
The father-in-law beamed and advised, "Yes, never criticize your wife for
her shortcomings or when she has done something wrong. Always bear in mind and thank God that because of her shortcomings and weaknesses, she has you and she could not find a better husband than yourself."
What is Likeability Factor
For years we've heard that it's more important to be respected than liked. Yet study after study is proving conventional wisdom wrong -- finding instead that the road to success is more often a series of popularity contests.
Research at Columbia University shows that jobs, pay raises and promotions are more apt to be awarded based on a worker's charisma than on his or her academic background or professional qualifications.
Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray and Christmas found that during corporate downsizings, hiring and firing decisions boil down to how well people are liked by their supervisors. "It's not enough just to do a good job; you have to be likeable in the eyes of your employer," says company president James Challenger.
The good news is likability is a skill that can be learned. After two years and a quarter million pages of research, Tim Sanders, leadership coach at Yahoo! and author of "The Likeability Factor," has unlocked the secrets to having a magnetic personality.
"When people encounter you, they subconsciously ask themselves four questions that determine your likability or 'L-Factor'," Sanders explains. "First, they seek friendliness. Then, they ask themselves if you are relevant to them. Next, they ponder whether you have empathy for them. Finally, they ask themselves if you are 'real' -- that is, authentic and honest. If the answers to those four questions are affirmative, you receive a high Likeability Factor."
To up your "L-factor," Sanders offers a four-step process:
Step One: Increase Your Friendliness
Your friendliness is a function of your ability to communicate openness and welcome to others. Make an effort to greet people cheerfully, smile often and adopt a friendly mindset that you communicate through positive body language and words.
Step Two: Raise Your Relevance
Your relevance has to do with your connection to others' interests, wants and needs. The more relevant you are, the more people like you. Relevance has three levels:
# Contact. The odds are, likability will increase with "functional distance," such as sitting next to someone at a party or living nearby.
# Mutual Interests. Having common interests or experiences makes people feel validated and generates a sense of community and personal respect.
# Value. Relevance is strongest when the value you offer meets another person's wants and needs. This produces positive attitudes in the person's mind and contributes to your allure.
To become more relevant, find ways to connect with the interests and needs of others. Know what they're passionate about outside of work. Be aware of their emotional needs and willing to respond to them.
Step Three: Show Empathy
Your empathy reflects your capacity to see things from another person's point of view and to experience his or her feelings yourself. When you connect with someone's feelings, and they believe you're "with them," it delivers a psychological hug. Ask yourself, do I:
# Know how that person is feeling about his or her life situation these days?
# Understand what it must feel like to perform the person's tasks day after day -- be it caring for an elderly relative at home or managing a heavy workload?
# Share the same emotions about key issues?
By making yourself more emotionally available, your connection with people -- and your likability -- will grow dramatically.
Step Four: Keep It Real
Realness is consistency between your beliefs and actions. To be true to yourself and others, you need to:
# Do what you want to be doing in life.
# Live with purpose.
# Commit to the principles of your work.
# Be the same person on the outside as you are on the inside.
# Be direct and honest with others.
The more you live by your values, the more your perceived realness will elevate. Conversely, if people decide you're not real, they will discount your friendliness, relevance and empathy -- and probably dislike you.
"Basically, likability comes down to creating positive emotional experiences in others," Sanders concludes. "When you make others feel good, they tend to gravitate to you."
You still have hope
If you can find beauty in the colors of a small flower, then you still have hope...
If you can find pleasure in the movement of a butterfly, then you still have hope...
If the smile of a child can still warm your heart, then you still have hope...
If you can see the good in other people, then you still have hope...
If the rain breaking on a roof top can still lull you to sleep, then you still have hope...
If the sight of a rainbow still makes you stop and stare in wonder, then you still have hope...
If the soft fur of a favored pet still feels pleasant under your fingertips,
then you still have hope...
If you meet new people with a trace of excitement and optimism, then you still have hope...
If you give people the benefit of a doubt, then you still have hope...
If you still offer your hand in friendship to others that have touched your life,
then you still have hope...
If receiving an unexpected card or letter still brings a pleasant surprise,
then you still have hope...
If the suffering of others still fills you with pain and frustration,
then you still have hope...
If you refuse to let a friendship die, or accept that it must end,
then you still have hope...
If you look forward to a time or place of quiet and reflection,
then you still have hope...
If you still watch love stories or want the endings to be happy,
then you still have hope...
If you can look to the past and smile, then you still have hope...
If, when faced with the bad, when told everything is futile, you can still
look up and end the conversation with the phrase... "yeah....BUT.."
then you still have hope...
Hope is such a marvelous thing. It bends, it twists, it sometimes hides,
but rarely does it break...
It sustains us when nothing else can...
It gives us reason to continue and courage to move ahead,
when we tell ourselves we'd rather give in...
Hope puts a smile on our face when the heart cannot manage...
Hope puts our feet on the path when our eyes cannot see it...
Hope moves us to act when
our souls are confused of the direction....
Hope is a wonderful thing, something to be cherished and nurtured,
and something that will refresh us in return...
And it can be found in each of us,
and it can bring light into the darkest of places...
Never lose hope... NEVER!!!

Let me love you
Once upon a time, there was once a guy who was very much in love with this girl. This romantic guy folded 1,000 pieces of papercranes as a gift to his girl. Although, at that time he was just a small executive in his company, his future doesn't seemed too bright, they were very happy together. Until one day, his girl told him she was going to Paris and will never come back. She also told him that she cannot visualise any future for the both of them, so let's go their own ways there and then... heartbroken, the guy agreed.
When he regained his confidence, he worked hard day and night, slogging his body and mind just to make something out of himself. Finally with all these hard work and with the help of friends, this guy had set up his own company...
"You never fail until you stop trying." he always told himself. "I must make it in life!"
One rainy day, while this guy was driving, he saw an elderly couple sharing an umbrella in the rain walking to some destination. Even with the umbrella, they were still drenched. It didn't take him long to realise those were his ex-girlfriend' s parents. With a heart in getting back at them, he drove slowly beside the couple, wanting them to spot him in his luxury sedan. He wanted them to know that he wasn't the same anymore, he had his own company, car, condo, etc. He had made it in life!
Before the guy can realise, the couple was walking towards a cemetary, and he got out of his car and followed them...and he saw his ex-girlfriend, a photograph of her smiling sweetly as ever at him from her tombstone... and he saw his precious papercranes in a bottle placed beside her tomb. Her parents saw him. He walked over and asked them why this had happened. They explained, she did not leave for France at all. She was stricken ill with cancer. In her heart, she had believed that he will make it someday, but she did not want her illness to be his obstacle ... therefore she had chosen to leave him.
She had wanted her parents to put his papercranes beside her, because, if the day comes when fate brings him to her again he can take some of those back with him. The guy just wept ...the worst way to miss someone is to be sitting right beside them but knowing you can't have them and will never see them again.

Marriage & Spirituality
Marriage also implies the responsibility to bring up children, which is one of the great privileges of life.
A person contemplating marriage may wonder whether she/he will get solitude and peace of mind, Well solitude is desirable, but not for all the time . A married person can remember Kahil Gibran's suggestion: Let there be spaces in your togetherness.
What do authors and spiritual leaders say on whether one should get married? Leo Tolstoy suggested that it is best to stay celibrat; but if one cannot so, one should get married and be faithful. As the vast majority of people are not inclined towards celibacy, marriage seems to be better.
Swami Sivananda said: "Great rishies of yore were married but they did not lead the life of passion and lust. Married life, if lived in an ideal manner, is no bar to the attainment of Mukti,"
Marriage brings with it the responsibility to do a lot of work. One cannot remain all the time contemplating. Swami Vivekananda said that a householder has to struggle to acquire two things: knowledge and wealth (for which work is essential)
One gets little or no payment for activities like social work or chanting. A married person may find things difficult unless she/he has a like minded spouse who is willing to sacrifice material comforts.
Narad C.Choudhuri warns a person who plans to write serious book may face problems if the spouse loves to socialise a lot or object to pursuits that do not bring in wealth.
And, where there is marriage, there is quarrel. One must keep this in mind before getting onto the bandwagon of marriage. Until such quarrels go to the point o break-up on one's marriage, one should take them in one's stride. At times, they strengthen marriages.

Five things you should NEVER say to your spouse
Just as important as saying the right thing to the one you love is to avoid saying statements that have the potential to destroy the foundation of the relationship. Saying just one wrong thing can negate an entire day of good statements and actions. Negative and hurtful statements can have the power to cut through the very fabric of the bond between two people in love.
Here are those five things you should NEVER say to your spouse:
1. It’s your fault! Sometimes, a financial decision goes bad, one of your children gets in trouble at school, or some household calamity occurs. And know this – things do go bad from time to time in any relationship. Decisions turn out wrong. Stuff happens! But the blame game never works! It alienates. It divides. It most certainly undermines trust and openness in your relationship.
2. I told you so! Trust us on this – these four words are rarely ever used in successful marriages. This kind of “comeuppance” has no place in a loving relationship. There is no need to remind your spouse that you were right about something and they were wrong. Talk about wasted criticism!
3. Saying “I am upset with you about this or that . . . .” in a public setting. Telling private secrets or criticizing your spouse in public or to someone else can do permanent damage to the trust in your relationship. True or not – it doesn’t matter. Keep private things private.
4. Why do you always . . . Focusing on your spouse’s weakness rather than building on their strengths will only increase their weakness and diminish their strength. This habit can send a relationship into a downward spiral if weaknesses are pointed out and commented upon. Success does breed success. Stick with the strengths and don’t focus on weakness.
5. Ask for your spouse’s opinion and then do the opposite. We have heard from many angry divorced or almost divorced couples that this is the greatest indicator of “disrespect.” If you ask where your spouse wants to go to dinner and he/she suggests a couple of places, then you select a different one, by your actions you said, “I do not respect your opinion and don’t care what you think!”
Since saying negative or hurtful things can be damaging to a loving relationship, it is wise to take extra caution before engaging your mouth when these negative thoughts come into your mind.

WORDS
I have always had a special love for words. Words have such power in them. The right words can uplift, inspire, heal, and create endless joy and love in our lives.
The wrong words can depress, discourage, hurt, and bring us endless misery and pain. It is so very important then to try and choose the right words in our lives. By choosing the right words I don’t just mean saying the right words or writing the right words either. I also mean thinking the right words. It is amazing the garbage that so many of us allow ourselves to think each and everyday of our lives.
In order to live a truly blessed life we must haul away the garbage and start to plant words that will grow into a garden of joy and light in our minds. Start today then to make the words in your life work for you and not against you. Do away with “can’t” and “no”. Try “can” and “yes” instead. Say, “ I can be happy, I can choose joy, and I can share love.” Say, “Yes” to life, to learning, and to growth.
Begin to use words like: Wonderful, Beautiful, and Delightful when you speak to others.
Find a word of praise for everyone you know and then share it with
them. Look the people you love straight in the eye and tell them,
“God loves you.” Seek our every fantastic, fabulous, and glorious word that you can and start to use them in your life.
Words are such simple things and yet they have the power to change
our lives forever if we use them right. Make the choice everyday of your life to use all of the good, positive, and loving words you can every second that you can. If you do this you will find that your life will become a paradise of love and joy, that other people will become
your brothers and sisters in happiness, and that God’s goodness will shine through every word you use....

Principles of life
* Winning isn't everything. But wanting to win is.
* You would achieve more, if you don't mind who gets the credit.
* When everything else is lost, the future stillremains.
* Don't fight too much. Or the enemy would know your art of war.
* The only job you start at the top is when you dig a grave.
* If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for everything.
* If you do little things well, you'll do big ones better.
* Only thing that comes to you without effort is old age.
* You won't get a second chance to make the first impression.
* Only those who do nothing do not make mistakes.
* Never take a problem to your boss unless you have a solution.
* If you are not failing you're not taking enough risks.
* Don't try to get rid of bad temper by losing it.
* If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.
* Those who don't make mistakes usually don't make anything
* There are two kinds of failures. Those who think and never do, and those who do and never think.
* Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win.
* All progress has resulted from unpopular decisions.
* Change your thoughts and you change your world.
* Understanding proves intelligence, not the speed of the learning.
* There are two kinds of fools in this world. Those who give advise and those who don't take it.
* The best way to kill an idea is to take it to a meeting.
* Management is doing things right. Leadership is doing the right things.

Sand and Stone
A story tells that two friends were walking through
the desert. During some point of the journey, they
had an argument, and one friend slapped the other
one in the face. The one who got slapped was hurt,
but without saying anything, he wrote in the sand:
Today my best friend slapped me in the face.
They kept on walking, until they found an oasis,
where they decided to take a bath. The one who had
been slapped got stuck in the mire and started
drowning, but his friend saved him. After he
recovered from the near drowning, he wrote on a stone:
Today my best friend saved my life.
The friend, who had slapped and saved his best
friend, asked him, "After I hurt you, you wrote in
the sand, and now, you write on a stone, why?"
The other friend replied: "When someone hurts us,
we should write it down in sand, where the winds of
forgiveness can erase it away, but when someone
does something good for us, we must engrave it in
stone where no wind can ever erase it.
Learn to write your hurts in the sand and to carve
your blessings in stone.
Be Blessed.

Perfact Boss
There were about 70 scientists working on a very hectic project. All of them were really frustrated due to the pressure of work and the demands of their boss but everyone were loyal to him and did not think of quitting the job.
One day, one scientist came to his boss and told him - Sir, I have promised to my children that I will take them to the exhibition going on in our township. So I want to leave the office at 5:30 pm. His boss replied "OK, You're permitted to leave the office early today".
The Scientist started working. He continued his work after lunch. As usual he got involved to such an extent that he looked at his watch when he felt he was close to completion. The time was 8.30 PM.
Suddenly he remembered of the promise he had given to his children.
He looked for his boss, he was not there. Having told him in the morning itself, he closed everything and left for home. Deep within himself, he was feeling guilty for having disappointed his children. He reached home. Children were not there.
His wife alone was sitting in the hall and reading magazines. The situation was explosive; any talk would boomerang on him. His wife asked him, "Would you like to have coffee or shall I straight away serve dinner if you are hungry.
The man replied "If you would like to have coffee, I too will have but what about Children?"
Wife replied "You don't know? Your manager came here at 5.15 PM and has taken the children to the exhibition"
What had really happened was ... The boss who granted him permission was observing him working seriously at 5.00 PM. He thought to himself, this person will not leave the work, but if he has promised his children they should enjoy the visit to exhibition.
So he took the lead in taking them to exhibition. The boss does not have to do it everytime. But once it is done, loyalty is established.
That is why all the scientists at Thumba continued to work under their boss even though the stress was tremendous.
By the way, can you guess as to who the boss was..?
.....

....
.....
He was none other than the mastermind behind India 's successful nuclear weapons and missiles program.
Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, Former President of India .

Lighthouse
A story about a small candle carried by a man who was climbing the stairs of a lighthouse. In their way up to the top, the candle asked the man, "Where are we going?"
"We"re going to the top of this lighthouse and give signals to the big ships on the ocean," the man answered.
"What? How could it be possible for me with my small light to give signals to those big ships?"
"They will never be able to see my light", replied the candle weakly.
"That"s your part. If your light is small, let it be. All you have to do is keep burning and leave the rest to me", said the man.
A little later, they arrived at the top of the lighthouse where there was a big lamp with a loop behind it. Then the man lit the lamp with the light of the candle and instantly, the place shone so brightly that the ships on the ocean could see its light.
With our being and our limitations, we"re hardly able to do any meaningful things. Yet, one thing we should bear in mind is that our life is like a small candle in God"s powerful hand. All our abilities and expertise will remain as a small light if we don"t put our life in God"s hand. On the contrary, even if our light is so small or dim, if we entrust all our life to God, he is able to make our small light into a big one that brings blessings to many people.
Do not look at your inability, limitations, and weaknesses. God entrust you with something. Have faith that you are in His mighty hand that He will use you according to His will. When we put all our trust in Him, we will see how He uses our lives, including our limitations, to be blessings to others.
Most Important Part Of The Body
My mother used to ask me: "What is the most important part of the body?"
Through the years I would take a guess at what I thought was the correct answer. When I was younger, I thought sound was very important to us as humans, so I said, "My ears, Mommy."
Mother said, "No Many people are deaf. But you keep thinking about it and I will ask you again soon."
Several years passed before she asked me again. Since making my first attempt, I had contemplated the correct answer. So this time I told her, "Mommy, sight is very important to everybody, so it must be our eyes."
Mother looked at me and told me, "You are learning fast, but the answer is not correct because there are many people who are blind."
Stumped again, I continued my quest for knowledge. Over the years, Mother asked me a couple more times and always her answer was, "No, but you are getting smarter every year, my child."
Then last year, my grandpa died. Everybody was hurt. Everybody was crying. Even my father cried. I remember that especially because it was only the second time I saw him cry. My Mom looked at me when it was our turn to say our final good-bye to Grandpa.
Mother asked me, "Do you know the most important body part yet, my dear?"
I was shocked when she asked me this now. I always thought this was a game between her and me. Mother saw the confusion on my face and told me, "This question is very important. It shows that you have really lived in your life. For every body part you gave me in the past, I have told you was wrong and I have given you an example why. But today is the day you need to learn this important lesson."
Mother looked down at me as only a mother can. I saw her eyes well up with tears. Mother said, "My dear, the most important body part is your shoulder."
I asked, "Is it because it holds up my head?"
Mother replied, "No, it is because it can hold the head of a friend or a loved one when they cry. Everybody needs a shoulder to cry on sometime in life, my dear. I only hope that you have enough love and friends that you will always have a shoulder to cry on when you need it."
Then and there I knew the most important body part is not a selfish one. It is sympathetic to the pain of others. People will forget what you said... People will forget what you did.... But people will NEVER forget how you made them feel.
Greatest Pain In Life
To lose the person you love so much to another who doesn't care at all.
CHAT WITH GOD
God: Hello. Did you call me?
Man: Called you? No... Who is this?
God: This is God. I heard your prayers. So I thought I will chat.
Man: I am actually busy now. I am in the midst of something...
God: What are you busy at? Ants are busy too.
Man: Don't know. But I can't find free time. Life has become hectic. It's rush hour all the time.
God: Sure. Activity gets you Busy. But Productivity gets you Results. Activity Consumes time. Productivity frees it.
Man: I understand. But I still can't figure it out. By the way, I was not expecting YOU to buzz me on instant messaging chat.
God: I want to resolve your fight for time, by giving you some clarity. In this NET Era, I wanted to reach you through the medium you are comfortable with.
Man: Tell me, why has life become complicated now?
God: Stop analyzing life. Just live it. Analysis is what makes it complicated.
Man: Why are we then constantly unhappy?
God: Your Today is the Tomorrow that you worried about Yesterday. You are worrying because you are analyzing. Worrying has become your habit. That's why you are not happy.
MAN: But how can we not worry when there is so much uncertainty?
God: Uncertainty is inevitable, but worrying is optional.
MAN: But then, there is so much pain due to uncertainty.
God: Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.
MAN: If suffering is optional, why do good people always suffer?
God: Diamond cannot be polished without friction. Gold cannot be purified without fire. Good people go through trials, but don't suffer. With that experience their life becomes better not bitter.
MAN: You mean to say such experience is useful?
God: Yes. In every term, Experience is a hard teacher. It gives the test first and based on results the lessons afterwards.
MAN: But still, why such tests? Why can't we be free from problems?
God: Problems are Purposeful Roadblocks Offering Beneficial Lessons (to) Enhance Mental Strength. Inner strength comes from struggle and endurance. Not when you
are free from problems.
MAN: Frankly in the midst of so many problems, we don't know where we are heading...
God: If you look outside you will not know where you are heading. Look inside. Looking outside, you dream. Looking inside, you awaken. Eyes provide sight. Heart provides insight.
MAN: Sometimes not succeeding fast seems to hurt more than moving in the right direction. What should I do?
God: Success is a measure as decided by others... Satisfaction is a measure as decided by you. Knowing the road ahead is more satisfying than knowing you rode ahead. You work with the compass. Let others work with the clock.
MAN: In tough times, how do you stay motivated?
God: Always look at how far you have come rather than how far you have to go. Always count your blessing, not what you are missing.
MAN: What surprises you about people?
God: When they suffer they ask, "Why me?" When they prosper, they never ask "Why me". Everyone wishes to have truth on his or her side, but few want to be on the side of the truth.
MAN: Sometimes I ask, who am I, why am I here. I can't get the answer.
God: Seek not to find who you are, but to determine who you want to be. Stop looking for a purpose as to why you are here. Create it. Life is not a process of discovery but a process of creation.
MAN: How can I get the best out of life?
God: Face your past without regret. Handle your present with confidence. Prepare for the future without fear.
MAN: One last question. Sometimes I feel my prayers are not answered.
God: There are no unanswered prayers. At times the answer is NO.
MAN: Thank you for this wonderful chat. It was very inspirational.
God: Keep the faith and Drop the fear. Don't Believe your doubts and Doubt your beliefs. Life is a mystery to solve, not a problem to resolve. Life is wonderful if you know how to live.
"Life is what we make it, always has been, always will be."
Likability or L- Factor
You Still Have Hope
then you still have hope...
If you can find beauty in the colors of a small flower,
then you still have hope...
If you can find pleasure in the movement of a butterfly,
then you still have hope...
If the smile of a child can still warm your heart,
then you still have hope...
If you can see the good in other people,
then you still have hope...
If the rain breaking on a roof top can still lull you to sleep,
then you still have hope...
If the sight of a rainbow still makes you
stop and stare in wonder,
then you still have hope...
If the soft fur of a favored pet still
feels pleasant under your fingertips,
then you still have hope...
If you meet new people with a trace of excitement and optimism,
then you still have hope...
If you give people the benefit of a doubt,
then you still have hope...
If you still offer your hand in friendship to others
that have touched your life,
then you still have hope...
If you can look to the past and smile,
then you still have hope...
NEVER!!!

True Love
This short love story was narrated by my Doctor Friend:-
It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80's, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would to able to see him . I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On exam, it was well healed, so I talked to one of the doctors, got the needed supplies to remove his sutures and redress his wound.
While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had another doctor's' appointment this morning, as he was in such a hurry. The gentleman told me no, that he needed to go to the nursing home to eat breakfast with his wife.
I inquired as to her health. He told me that she had been there for a while and that she was a victim of Alzheimer's Disease.
As we talked, I asked if she would be upset if he was a bit late. He replied that she no longer knew who he was, that she had not recognized him in five years now.
I was surprised, and asked him, "And you still go every morning, even though she doesn't know who you are?"
He smiled as he patted my hand and said, "She doesn't know me, but I still know who she is......"
I had to hold back tears as he left, I had goose bumps on my arm, and thought, "That is the kind of love I want in my life."
True love is neither physical, nor romantic.
True love is an acceptance of all that is, has been, will be, and will not be.
Please take time to read this
The first thing they prayed for was food. The next morning, the first man saw a fruit-bearing tree on his side of the land, and he was able to eat its fruit. The other man's parcel of land remained barren.
After a week, the first man was lonely and he decided to pray for a wife. The next day, another ship was wrecked, and the only survivor was a woman who swam to his side of the land. On the other side of the island, there was nothing.
Soon the first man prayed for a house, clothes, more food. The next day, like magic, all of these were given to him. However, the second man still had nothing.
Finally, the first man prayed for a ship, so that he and his wife Could leave the island. In the morning, he found a ship docked at his side of the island.
The first man boarded the ship with his wife and decided to leave the second man on the island. He considered the other man unworthy to receive God's blessings, since none of his prayers had been answered.
As the ship was about to leave, the first man heard a voice from heaven booming, "Why are you leaving your companion on the island?"
"My blessings are mine alone, since I was the one who prayed for them," the first man answered. "His prayers were all unanswered and so he does not deserve anything."
"You are mistaken!" the voice rebuked him! "He had only one prayer, which I answered. If not for that, you would not have received any of my blessings."
"Tell me," the first man asked the voice, "what did he pray for that I should owe him anything?"
"He prayed that all your prayers be answered."
For all we know, our blessings are not the fruits of our prayers alone, but those of another praying for us.
This is too good not to share. With obedience come blessings. My prayer for you today is that all your prayers are answered. Be blessed.
What you do for others is more important than what you do for yourself.
This was shared with me by a dear friend; I hope you will share with your friends too.
