Types of Atheism and Agnosticism

Weak or Implicit Atheism: You don't care that gods exist or don't exist and you're not worried about. When asked you refer to yourself as a Nonbeliever, Non-Religious or Indifferent.

Strong or Explicit Atheism: You actively disbelieve in the existence of gods. When asked you refer to yourself as an Atheist.

Humanism: You believe that all people have the ability to discern right from wrong through rational thought.

Naturalism: You believe that "nature is all there is and all basic truths are truths of nature."

Confucianism: You believe in the moral code and teachings of the Chinese philosopher Confucius, who believed gods do not exist, people should revere their parents/ancestors, treat people with respect and serve the state/mankind.

Agnosticism

Agnosticism is a middle ground between belief and disbelief. Agnostics believe that gods can be neither proven or disproven.

Strong Agnosticism refers the view that the question of the existence or nonexistence of God or gods and the nature of ultimate reality is unknowable by reason of our natural inability to verify any experience with anything but another subjective experience. A strong agnostic would say, "I don't know whether God exists or not, and neither do you."

Weak Agnosticism is the view that the existence or nonexistence of any deity is currently unknown but is not necessarily unknowable, therefore one will withhold judgment until/if any evidence is available. A weak agnostic would say, "I don't know whether any deity exists or not, but maybe one day when there is more evidence we can find something out."

Apathetic or Pragmatic Agnosticism is the view that there is no proof of either the existence or nonexistence of any deity, but since any deity that may exist appears unconcerned for the universe or the welfare of its inhabitants, the question is largely academic anyway.

Agnostic Theism is the view of those who do not claim to know existence of any deity, but still believe in such an existence. (See Knowledge vs. Beliefs)

Agnostic Atheism is the view of those who do not know of the existence or nonexistence of a deity, and do not believe in any.

Ignosticism is the view that a coherent definition of God must be put forward before the question of the existence of God can be meaningfully discussed. If the chosen definition isn't coherent, the ignostic holds the noncognitivist view that the existence of God is meaningless or empirically untestable. A.J. Ayer, Theodore Drange, and other philosophers see both atheism and agnosticism as incompatible with ignosticism on the grounds that atheism and agnosticism accept "God exists" as a meaningful proposition which can be argued for or against. An ignostic cannot even say whether he/she is a theist or a nontheist until a better definition of theism is put forth.

Athesim and Discrimination

One of the reasons many atheists don't like religions is because of the way religions tend to discriminate against others based on sex, sexuality, race, religion or ethnicity.

However some atheists who have really strong opinions are just as guilty of discriminating too, sometimes mocking the fairy tale qualities of religions. This doesn't really serve anything however, all it does is prove is some people are assholes.

It is recommended that atheists don't go out of their way to discourage people from worshipping gods, but rather to let people come to their own conclusions through rational thought.

This doesn't mean however that atheists should be complete pushovers. Atheists should still stand up for their rights and freedom of speech/religion.

Depending on the amount of religious fanaticism in a particular society coming out of the "closet" as an atheist could cause problems to a person's social life, their schooling and/or work because of religious discrimination. Some religious fanatics go out of their way to harass anyone who isn't of their faith.

Athesim - Science and Fact

Some atheists believe strongly in reason, logic, scientific facts and that science is always finding new facts and helping us to further understand the universe. As such many atheists also believe in Evolution, Gravity and that the universe expands through supernovas and contracts with black holes.

Special Note: Believe may be the wrong word to use. Atheists do not 'believe' in science as facts do not require belief, but try convincing a Creationist that Evolution is real and you will quickly learn belief plays a strong role in their naysaying.

Atheists also acknowledge the possibility of life on other planets and that the Earth is likely just one of many planets that contain intelligent life. There's no proof aliens do exist of course, but atheists try to keep an open mind on the subject since it would be a remarkable scientific discovery and shatter the belief that humans are the only sentient species.

An excellent example is Galileo who raised the idea that the earth rotates around the sun, as opposed to the Bible which states "the world is firmly established, it cannot be moved." Under threat of death the Catholic Church forced Galileo to recant his theory during the Roman Inquisition. It wasn't until 1992 that Pope John Paul II apologized and admitted the earth revolves around the sun, contrary to Pope Benedict XVI (formerly Cardinal Ratzinger) who still insists its the sun that moves and that the earth stay stationary.

Atheists also reject the idea of superstitions like astrology, numerology, placebos, homeopathic healers, good/bad karma, praying, destiny and miracles. Such things atheists argue are basically just dumb luck. Stuff happens and people try to explain it as a miracle, but in reality there's always going to be a percentage of people that survive a tragedy. That isn't a miracle, its just a statistic.

Humans we should note are not the only creatures who are superstitious, as demonstrated by American psychologist B. F. Skinner who discovered that pigeons and animals can also develop superstitious behaviour. In laboratory studies Skinner's pigeons adopted superstitious habits in an efforts to get foot pellets, the result of doing something when the food pellet had dropped. The end result was pigeons jumping about, pecking the corners and jerking their heads hoping that their behaviour would somehow cause another food pellet to drop.

Athesim and Secularism

Atheists, agnostics and nonbelievers all agree on the concept of keeping religion and politics separate. Historically whenever religion interferes in politics the system collapses and/or war eventually breaks out. A notable example is the collapse of the Roman Empire.

As such many people agree that religion should also be kept out of government departments, public schools and the military. People can still attend those schools, work for the government or military/etc., but they should not allow their religious beliefs to interfere with their duty to the government.

Failure to do your duty because of your religious beliefs, or worse, deliberately doing something that either promotes your religious views or ridicules someone else's oversteps the boundaries and leads to corruption. Political corruption mixed with religion will only end in scandal and work to tarnish the name of both the religion and the government you represent.

Athesim - Family and Holidays

Many atheists still celebrate Christmas (sometimes referred to as Xmas, Yuletide or even the Seinfeld inspired holiday "Festivus") and celebrate holidays like Halloween and Easter with their friends and family.

Atheists agree that life should be celebrated and that time with family is precious. As such holidays are an excellent opportunity to spend time with friends and family.

Some remove the ideas of Jesus Christ/Santa Claus, but depending on the family they allow their kids to learn later that Santa Claus doesn't really exist. As parents they take on the responsibility of letting their kids figure it out for themselves it was phony.

Ostracizing family members because of their faith or lack of faith can be an issue for some families due to disagreements over the existence of god.

Atheism and Morality

None of us actually have miniature angels/devils on our shoulders telling us what to do. Our morality is determined by our decisions and our experience. If we rely on a book to tell us what to do, our sense of morality can sometimes lose touch with reality. Most atheists (and people in general) follow the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

Atheism is not without morality and still believes in the simple principles of: Do not murder. Do not lie. Do not steal. Do not cheat. These are rules every human being can live by, and are rules commonly found in the major religions.

Non-atheists, especially right wing Christians, have a tendency to cloud the issue of morality and claim that atheists don't have any morals. That would be incorrect. Morals are not forced upon us by religion. We learn morals from experience interacting with others.

Many atheists hold reason, logic and empathy in high esteem, arguing that morality is meaningless if a person lacks reason and empathy for their fellow man. For example, the Bible doesn't say anything about abortion, but it does say "Thou shalt not kill." A Christian with a warped sense of morals could use that as justification to murder an abortionist or bomb an abortion clinic, and there have been numerous such attacks in the United States.

Some Americans blame growing crime, rudeness and a growing lack of morality on atheism. However atheist/non-religious people makes up a very small percentage of the American population (less than 10%). If there is a loss of moral fibre in the United States it is not due to atheism, it is due to the lack of parental guidance in a society that has become too self-absorbed. Children these days are being taught to ignore the feelings of others in favour of their own immediate wants. Christians would be well-advised to take a page from their own book: �For the love of money is the root of all evil.� [Timothy 6:10]

The Bible, and the Quran for that matter, does have some interesting rules about morality. Some of them good, but the Bible also endorses things like slave ownership, killing people who work on the Sabbath, stoning homosexuals/disobedient children to death and a variety of other ideas of questionable morality. [See various entries in Exodus and Leviticus.] Evidently one can't take everything the Bible says literally, it is 1500 years out of date and was written by 40 different individuals who couldn't agree on a name so they just called it "Book".

Thus you understand why atheists don't take the Bible or any other religious material seriously. There is a moral disconnect in the Bible and many atheists know the moral ambiguities of the Bible very well, and because they can read it without the bias of faith they can point out its faults.

Some people like to point out the good work some religious charities do, but ask yourself: Would you still be doing charity work even if your religion didn't tell you to do it? People do good things because they want to, not because a book said they should.

Understanding Atheism

Atheism is the belief that gods, angels, devils, heaven, hell, nirvana and all supernatural things do not exist. As such atheism does not qualify as a religion, but rather is a philosophy with respect to life.

The idea is relatively simple: Everything that is from mythology or religion is just an elaborate guessing game as to the nature of the universe, its origins and the supposed afterlife.

Atheists also believe that it is immoral to force other people to follow a specific religion, to kill each other in the name of god and to pronounce judgement on people just because the Bible or Quran says so.

Life and Death

To a non-atheist the idea of dying and ceasing to exist is sad and scary. People are comforted by the idea of an afterlife and some people even prefer the concept of hell over ceasing to exist.

The concept of hell and punishment, or reincarnation as a cockroach, may also be comforting to some people who wish bad things on others. But how is that a good thing? If you spend your life wishing bad things to happen to other people that seems like a pretty miserable existence too.

For atheists however there is no afterlife and they believe that people should live their lives to the fullest. Some atheists believe in the possibility of alternate universes, wherein you repeat your life's trials and mistakes and hopefully try to do better than you did last time. Regardless the idea is still life affirming and pushes the idea of living well and helping others around you to live well.

Life and your time spent living is therefore precious to atheists. You only have one life so don't waste it worrying about death or thinking mean things. We all have regrets, but we should try to make the most of what life offers us.

Atheist's View of Death

The theists of the world say that death is usually and end of this body in preparation of the soul for taking a new body. Firstly, there are no evidences of past and future births of a person, secondly, there is no evidence that a living body has something eternal in it called the soul. Had there been a soul for every body taking births again and again, there won't be new creations of life and hence the overall population wold remain stable. Although, there is no census on total number of species of life on earth and their respective numbers at any time, apparently, the number of live bodies is increasing regularly, which means that the life is being created without an assumed transfer of soul.


Theists and Pundits in the business of Godly terror, and beggary and cheating in this name keep on fabricating and publicizing new stories of rebirths to keep them in business. And whatever such stories have been investigated, all have been found to be false.


Death in reality is failure of all functions of life in a live body after which the body becomes non-functional and all matters related to life in the body end then and there, with nothing to move forward temporally or spatially. This is the scientific definition of life supported by logical reasoning also.


As a natural principle, no matter in nature remains stable but keep on converting to other forms. Birth, growth and death are also such conversion processes about the body. It takes birth, grows, decays and ultimately becomes lifeless on failure of functioning. Thus, body is the matter and life is its functioning. both live together, work together and perish together.

Of Miseries and Mercies

Mercy is a word frequently used by religious and spiritual persons to reduce miseries of people in trouble. It is this aspect of humanity, I am pondering over here to find the reality.


In orthodox societies, like those in under-developed and developing world, religious spiritual leaders of society rule the people psychologically and provide guidance to them on every aspect of life. Through their control of the public nerve, they also decide who is to be the political authority of the society. Thus, religious and political authorities are closely linked in-spite of their exhibited isolation and separate entities. Both have interlinked powers of exploiting the general people. When exposed, the religious authorities are proved to be the richest in their own societies.


Humans have two major aspects of their lives – genetic and worldly. Genetically, everyone is different from all others but this makes little difference as far as one’s survival in the world is concerned. They have capabilities that are comparable with each other. Worldly attachments of a person make a big difference between individual’s capabilities of surviving with pleasures of human life.


Genetically, there are a few exceptional cases of individuals born with physical and mental deficiencies. For such exceptions, genetic differences can not generally be taken as playing major roles in life. But the worldly differences of individuals are considerable and so can’t be ignored.


Religious, economical and political leading persons of a society decide and manage how people in the society have to be - miserable or happily placed. These very persons plead and display their mercies for people in distress. Thus, the persons who create conditions of miseries to people also show their mercies on miserable people. This indicates that religiously, economically and politically strong persons need some miserable persons for displaying their mercies and for this purpose, they create conditions of miseries to people. Through display of mercies, these very persons show themselves as generous persons caring for the miserable people in the society. For this very display, they first create conditions to make the people miserable and then display their mercies.


Examples of this sorts may be seen all around. Political leaders in the government ignore genuine needs of health, education, justice and employment opportunities to the people making their lives miserable. Then these very authorities provide to the poor free-ships in health and educational services, free housing aids, subsidies on food items etc. to show that they care and impress the people for voting them again to power. Had they solved any of the problems of the people, their lives would not have been miserable that the formers had no opportunity to display their mercies.


In the field of religions, the leaders create terror of God and death in the minds of people and after that they come forward as their saviors and make the latter as their followers for keeping their business of exploitation evergreen. Had there been no terror of God and death in the minds of the people, no savior would ever be needed and the business of religions and spirituality would be a flop.


The same process is going even the most modern business of information technology. First, some malicious software are created and spread in computer networks, and then protection programs are floated in the market. But, here, there are no acts of mercy but of pure commerce. Still the modus operandi remains the same.

Influence of Divine Terror on India

India, since the days of Mahaabhhaarat war about 2400 years back, except for period of Gupta Dynasty rule, has been suffering from an imaginary terror of divinities on the life of people. This had been and is still being impressed that a person must be afraid of God and the death which may come/appear at any time to anyone. Scientific thinking on the subject is totally debarred through putting it under 'unknowable'.


Spreading process of this terror is continuous through a well-oiled mechanism of priesthood, temples/mosques/gurudwaras/churches at every nook and corner of the land. Billions of Rupees are spent every year on spreading this terror through print and audio-visual media leaving no possibility of escape for the common people from this terror. And this money is extracted from the pockets of common people through forcing devotional spirits in their minds. They donate due to their feelings of fear of and devotion to the unknown. People operating this mechanism also enjoy their lavish lifestyles from these donations without doing any productive work by themselves.


A huge population of India, estimated to be 25 percent of the total, is involved in this business of spreading divine terror and no productive work. This population remains in continuous touch with political authorities in the country for mutual gains. Through this terror, people are made tolerant to every sort of injustice done to them, every sort of exploitation inflicted on them, and every sort of their deprivation of their basic needs. Due to these, the common persons have continuous problems of survival and remain busy in confronting these. As a result, they have no time, resources and energies left to think ahead and analyze the causes of their miseries. This works advantageous to their exploiters and the exploitations go on unbridled and unchallenged. Thus, 15 percent population involved in governance and administration of the country in league with 25 percent population involved in spreading divine terror, keep on exploiting the balanced 60 percent hard-working population of India.


Logically, humans make a society and whatever changes take place in the society, affect their lives. Since, this factor remains out of control of any individual, future of everybody becomes dependent on social changes. This uncertainty is communicated to the people by the divine terrorists as their fates pre-written by God, On the other hand these terrorists themselves pose as agents to God and thus become moldes of people's fates through their intervention with God. This makes them super-human in the eyes of common people and this perception of super-humanism become the tool of all sorts of exploitations.

Mythology and Realology

Mythology means descriptions of persons and events based on hear-says without any logic or evidence of these. These pass on from one generation to the other without any questions and efforts to check these. As such many stories keep on floating in every human society of the world.


This is a built-in trait in the human psychology to believe what parents and other elders tell without raising any doubts or questions about their authenticity. If such a tradition goes on uncorrupted by evil intentions of some body in the chain, there is nothing wrong in carrying on the tradition from one generation to the next. But evil minds take advantage of this tradition to insert their evil stories in the psyche of people to serve their own ends.


Why we are discussing this issue is the fact that some evil-intentioned persons in the past took advantage of such a powerful tradition to float false stories in the societies to serve their vested interests. Concepts of Gods and Goddesses, religions and spirituality, etc. were floated by some enemies of humanity to relegate the people to nothingness and establish their psychological and political rule over them.


This biggest fraud of introduction of God and Religions in the psyche of humanity was committed about 2300 years ago by Plato and his Academy. The human societies all over the globe have been carrying these falsehoods as their mythologies and suffering under impact of these even today. This happened world-wide but some cultures gave a rethinking on these and eradicated what was found to be inappropriate to the human society.


Europe’s renaissance age is the result of such a rethinking making the people there free from such mythological stories. They examined each and every tradition brought forward through mythological stories and removed them from their society. This is what I call Realology - judging every tradition scientifically on the basis of realities.


India too has many such traditions carried forward from generation to generation without checking these scientifically. These mythological stories are paralyzing the Indian society’s mental faculties.

Faiths Blocking Scientific Developments

With the development of sciences, the humanity has become more knowledgeable and the process is going on. But religious myths, developed at a time when sciences had not developed in many fields, are in direct confrontation with the scientific knowledge. Today, only 45 percent of Americans believe in truth of evolution. However, Japanese and Europeans have shown a better inclination to scientific evolutionary knowledge with their percentages standing at 78 and 70, respectively.


So much so that the National Science Board, which oversees National Science Foundation in US, has opined that if religious beliefs of people require to discard scientific facts, the board doesn’t think it appropriate to expose the truth.


This is alarming to the scientific community and their work the world over and with some more advancements in the same direction, one day may kill all scientific developments. This is alarming to the people also who, in-spite of their contra-science religious beliefs, are dependent on scientific knowledge for their survival in their present lifestyles, whether it is electricity, medicines, computers, internet, etc or anything else. Thus the faith holders have a dual face on depending on sciences and showing their faith in anti-science religions. This is a clear indicator of where the religions are going to lead us to – a dark age.


Every religion claims to being based on universal knowledge. Yet the religious faith followers have been showing their intolerance to other religions by murderous actions, religious hatred, beheading and bombing people. Comparatively, the Atheists and non-believers rarely condemn individuals rather actions and ideas that deserve to be challenged and they are unanimously condemned by all religious followers. It shows that only the religions are at fault and these are misleading people and are divisive to human society.


Keeping religions immune from criticism, in the name of tolerance to religious faith and hurting feelings of the believers, is both unwarranted and dangerous. Unless we are willing to expose religious irrationalities whenever and wherever these arise, we shall be encouraging irrational orientation of public mind, policy and promote ignorance over education for our next generations.

Faith and Logic

Humans have an instinct called curiosity - to know more of things around - and for satisfying this urge, they acquire knowledge. There are two possible sources for gaining knowledge - by learning from others and believing them, and by studying unknown things logically or by grasping such studies of others and accepting the facts by satisfying themselves through reasoning. These two methodologies are, respectively, known as 'faith' and 'reasoning', and the latter is generally called as 'science'.


For faith, the person need not be knowledgeable in advance, nor he/she needs to have reasoning capability. In faith, the person gets an information from another just accepts that. So, it needs neither wisdom nor any mental exertion. Therefore, it is very easy and often an asylum for the idle minds - their curiosity gets satisfied without any efforts. Such a person may call him/herself as 'knowledgeable' but all his/her knowledge is shallow and changeable with time and circumstances. Imagine a person going to a group of theists and by just listening their views becomes a theist him/herself. The same person when goes to a group of atheists becomes an atheist just after listening their views. Thus, his/her faith and knowledge are changeable. For stabilizing his/her faith, he/she goes by majority view, or whatever is said by more people in his/her contact, is believed to be true..


Conversely, gaining knowledge logically is difficult, needing efforts and use of intellect of the person. In this process, the person examines each fact critically and accepts it only after getting satisfied. For this, the person must have reasoning capability and previous knowledge of examining the things critically. Therefore, only really knowledgeable persons could be logical. Because this scientific process is difficult, only few persons go for it and they acquire a little with much efforts. But their little knowledge is deep and unchangeable. For his/her little knowledge, such a person always remains curious and never considers him/herself 'knowledgeable'. With this feeling, he/she keeps on making efforts for gaining more and more knowledge. In reality, this is humanism which keeps the instinct of curiosity alive for ever.


Faith is not a natural attribute of human-beings. This was chosen by early humans on ad hoc basis to satisfy their curiosity when their sources and means of gaining knowledge were too few to satisfy their curiosity instinct. Even their intellect was also limited at that time. So, faith is not a permanent solution for satisfying curiosity but the 'science' certainly is.


Even humans have inertia like that of the dead bodies which provides them convenience of getting satisfied without working. For this reason, convenience-seeker humans are assertive on holding 'faith' steadfastly to save themselves from hardships of gaining knowledge through science.

Faith and Intellectualism

Faith and intellectualism are two opposite ends of ideology of an individual. In faith, the person believes in the matter without questioning its authenticity. this amounts to blocking the intellectual component of the person's personality. In intellectualism, the persons verifies the authenticity of a matter before him/her and believes only when the matter is found to be true. In this way of believing, the person makes full use of his/her intellect and in the process sharpens it further.


Intellect is the most precious attribute of a human-being making it superior to all other species of life on earth. So, it is distinctive of humanity and without this or without making use of it, the human-being is like any other animal, or in other words, the intellectualism is true humanism.


All matters of God, religions, spirituality, etc. demand faith of people without questioning, or without any intellectual intervention by the person, so are contra-humanity. And conversely, atheism is the real humanism. All faithfuls are just like beggars who live on others' mercies.


All humans have curiosity as a natural instinctive attribute, and curiosity includes knowing a thing in its depth trough use of logic and/or intellect. Use of logic and intellect is intellectualism and need no blind faith. Thus, atheism is an instinctive gift of nature for all those having intellect, and conversely theism is artificial and anti-instinctive.

Common Traits of Theist Personalities

Being a determined atheist, I have been closely watching those having leaning on theism. I find such personalities in confusion. The most dominant confusion in such persons remains whether they must perform or remain on mercy of God. Their thoughts keep on dangling in between these two issues, and when pressed on one side, escape to the other. To survive, they have to perform, on failures of their efforts they pray to God for results. When God does not help they skip to performing again.


They actually don't know how the results of their performances are generated, which are principally due to two factors - personal efforts and social circumstances. Since, circumstances are not under individual control, the results also go beyond individual control. For this reason, theists think that the results depend on God's mercy. Here, we examine some personality traits of theists.


Self-confidence
Living on the mercy of someone, God or somebody else, is good enough to lose one's confidence in the self for being able to do something on his/her own. Lack of confidence in the oneself adversely affects performances in all sectors of life. I have particularly noticed medical practitioners displaying 'I treat, He cures' message in their clinics in order to evade responsibility of getting results. Such practitioners must be avoided by serious patients.


Self-esteem
Feeling of 'I am nothing' is indicative of low level of self-esteem which is common in theists. They never raise their heads with pride but are ever prepared to bow before anybody, particularly those in pseudo robes posing as Godly men.


Subordination
Theists are happy to be subordinates rather than being the boss and taking decisions and responsibilities. So, theism blocks progress of the person.


Discipline
Discipline needs two basic things - clear understanding and following with confidence. Theism is a matter for displaying to others rather than adopting in practice. This fact is faced by every theist sooner or later. This makes them indecisive and adds fake-ness to their lifestyle and routine behavior. These, in turn, make the person deficient in discipline.


Individualism
Theism is rampant in the world not because of its being factual but because of the wide-spread conformism in the world humanity. People become theists not because of their own convictions but because their parents and social contacts have guided them to be so since their birth. So, a person is a conformist first and a theist later. This means that no theist has his/her own individual value system.


Thinking faculty
Persons who evolved theism also devised methods to block fresh thinking in the followers. The most common method adopted for this purpose is mono-tracking the mind of the victim through processes such as repetitions of certain words thousands of times. Such processes make the mind habitual of going in rounds and rounds on the matter in the same way and closed for a fresh thinking. So, no theist is a good thinker. As a result, the concept of theism remains the same in-spite of the humanity going trough rapid upheavals in lifestyles.

Theism Robs You of Your Integrated Personality

Every one of us thinks and speaks high of oneself and one's performances at every available opportunity. This indicates that we have an built-in feeling self-pride, another name for self-esteem. It is a naturally gifted to every one, and there is nothing wrong in it.


Theism preaches us that we are what God has created us to be, and that nothing moves without His will, and that everything and event in the world is pre-designed by Him. We are also told that we are nothing on our own, and we do nothing on our own. And ultimately, we are told not to have any trace of self-pride. Practically speaking, this all goes against natural human tendency.


Since, most of the persons are born conformists, they never dare to confront theist declarations minimizing their existences and their self-esteems. They coolly subscribe to all the declarations and openly preach to others. In-spite of all the conformism outside, every one of these has reservations on all these issues, which find expressions when speaking high of oneself in the society.


This makes the conformists to play dual roles in the society - one with self-esteem and another of conformists - and the two pulling in opposite directions. There is a beautiful Hindi song -

Dekhiye to kya haseen baat hai -
Ek kadam chal raha alag-thalage,
Doosara kisee ke saath-saath hai.

meaning -
What a strange matter -
One foot is moving separately,
the other is with somebody.

This duality causes immense damage to one's personality and self-confidence. This is the reason of a world-wide crisis of self-confidence in people, particularly in God-fearing people of countries like India.

Theism is Cultural Degradation of Humanity

Firstly, let me explain what is my view of a culture. It is what a children learn from their parents and elders in the society, or in other words, culture is composed of customs and traditions of the society which get naturally cultivated in the mind and lifestyle of children. Wit this definition, it may be or moving in right or wrong direction depending on whether customs and traditions of a society are right (scientific) or wrong (orthodox). So, culture is not a pious word, as is normally understood.


Greater problem with culture of a society is that the people usually pay great regard to their culture irrespective of whether it is right or wrong, and so resist any change in its norms even if it is non-scientific. This degrades the society. Europe critically analyzed its culture about 300 years back and entered into the age of renaissance which changed everything there - customs and traditions - thus, re-cultivating the people's minds and thinking. All people are not that great of being critical to what they are accustomed to. Conversely, India is still suffering with the burden of 2000 year old orthodox and superstitious culture.


The worst contributor of human culture in the history of humanity has been Plato who, in his Academy, researched on social dynamics and found that people can easily be slaved of misconceptions like God, religion, spirituality and other allied superstitions and he managed to float a theist culture all over the then world, particularly in Eurasia. That culture still prevails in most part of the world, blocking fresh thinking by the people for being terrified in the names of God and other Divinities, with various religions working as carriers of this terror. Thus, theism is the culture, exit from which people resist with all their might.


The original religion of humanity had been humanism. After the people were cultivated into theism, the converse of it - atheism, was coined as another name of humanism. Thus, theism and humanism face each other as opposite of each other. Unfortunately, for the huge and continuous investments in theistic religions by vested interests all over the world, most of the people today are theists forgetting everything about the real humanism. Even Jesus Christ, in whose name Christianity was floated about 200 years after his death, was opposed to misconceptions of religions and Gods for the whole of his life which he spent on Indian land along with his Theo (Dev) friends.

Disapproval of Nature to Theism

The Nature provides basic instincts of will to survive, procreation, etc. to human life, and these are found equally developed in all species of life on earth. If the concepts of God and theism were natural, all species of life would have it like the basic instincts. But we find no traces of these concepts in any species of life other than the humans, so these prove to be the products of human brain and hence are not natural but artificially created.


If the God were supreme and the humans did not create it, then how the humanity came to know about it. Was it found inscribed naturally some where, or listened by somebody from a natural source. Obviously, none of these is true hence the God is a creation of humanity itself. With this logic, God being creation of human civilization or a distortion thereof, can not be superior to humans because no creation can be superior to the creator.


The next question to be considered is whether the God is the creation of human civilization or its distortion. No theist of the world is going to accept the reality of the God being inferior to humanity. In their view, the God is the creator of humanity hence is supreme. This is nothing but covering one falsehood by another. Since the whole concept of God and its related outcomes such as religions, theism, etc. are comprised of a chain of falsehoods, one after another, all such things are distortions of human civilization.


God is said to be a matter of faith and nothing else. Firstly, no faith has a universal value and is always a product individual human brain or of circumstances of individual's upbringing. Secondly, there are a number of faiths originated from various religions and sects and each one depicts God differently. If the God were a universal object, there could be no controversy about it. A unique thesis could have been scientifically established about it.


The Nature says nothing of God while it is quite explicit about different species of life, climates, and planetary systems etc. If God were a natural object, it would have been existing somewhere in nature and could be scientifically studied and understood.

Supremacy of Human Mind over God

The very concept of God came to human mind making God a creation of human mind. There is nothing to prove that the concept is a divine creation or existed before evolution of human civilization.


All spiritualists and Godly persons declare that a creator is always superior to the created and through this they claim that the God created the whole Universe and so is the superiormost of everything in this Universe. But we all know that even this thesis is a creation of human mind. Thus, human mind is proved to be superior to even God and all its related concepts and hypotheses.


All Godly personalities like Ram of Theo culture, Jesus of Christianity, etc. have been experiencing pains and pleasures of life like all other ordinary persons on this earth. This proves that they were also humans. Of course, such persons were great in their deeds, or we may say that these persons had great thoughts in their minds for which humanity appreciates them. Importantly, none of such real great persons claimed to be Divine or embodiments of God in their lifetimes. People who appreciated their greatness respected them. And when the concept of God and Divinities came into being, they were regarded as Divine personalities and embodiments of God.


Thus, Godliness is greatness of mind and deeds which anybody may achieve through self-restrain, discipline and taking care of humanity through taking it forward on its march to a better human civilization. In this respect, one thing is sure and certain - Godliness is not be claimed by the person him/herself but has to be rewarded by others of future generations after realizing and ascertaining greatness of deeds of the person. Whosoever claims to be Divine by him/herself is a fraud against humanity and Godliness. One can only be devoted to Godliness but can't claim to have achieved it.

Flaws of Agnosticism

Agnosticism is defined in Webster’s Comprehensive Dictionary as -

Doctrine of nescience, or the theory which maintains that man can not, and has not, any real or valid knowledge, but can know only impressions.


The theory that the first truths, substance, cause, the human soul, and the first Cause can neither be proved nor disproved, and must remain unknown or unknowable.


The theory that God is unknown or unknowable.


We are also told that the reason for the unknowability is that we being part of the creation, can not know the creator, God.


The reason for all such theories is that the agnostics being in the business of God and Godliness, want people believe that the God exists without providing any proof of the same due to their vested interests. They don’t want people to raise a finger on their right or wrong business practices. The basic question is when the God is unknown and unknowable, how did any body come to know that God exists at all. Any thing unknown and unknowable can neither be imagined nor be given a name, and further nothing can be preached about it.


True, that we don’t yet know everything and are in the process of knowing many more things, but the fact remains that the humanity has existed and progressed on the basis of its ever-growing knowledge-base and nothing in its arena of knowledge is unknown or unknowable to all. Without knowing something, humanity can not proceed further in the matter and drops the subject from its possibilities. In the case of God, the vested interests, for fear of losing business, do not want the people to erase the subject from their minds. Whatever is unknown and unknowable to all the humans nobody has the authority to preach others just to believe. As a natural process, nothing can be believed without knowing about it.


So agnosticism is self-contradictory and no body has the authority to propound a doctrine without himself/herself knowing the subject of the doctrine.

Thoughts on Agnosticism

Agastya a seer from India of Mahaabhaarat period, from 400 bc to about 150 bc, founded the concept of agnosticism to save human thought energy from wasting in things which matter little to overall human welfare on earth. In his opinion, there are few things which are and shall always be unknowable to humanity - like the creator of this universe and the purpose of its creation. The idea is to look forward for progress and be on the march of a better human civilization where all humans shall be healthy and happy and put all our energies to attain this goal. In achieving this goal, questions such as when the universe was created and who created it matter little and we should not waste our precious energies on such trivial issues.


History is not all that useless to our progress. It teaches us where did the past humanity erred to avoid such instances in future, and where it fared well to keep them going on. But these historical information must be relevant to our present and near-future contexts. If the information from the past is irrelevant now and for near-future, it need not be looked into to conserve our energies. The questions about the creation are such matters irrelevant to our present and near-future, these being from extremely far off in the past. So, Agastya marked such issues as unknowable and this philosophy came to be known as agnosticism in honor of its proposer.


Issues of creation are from our real world. But with passage of time, some cunning fellows conceptualized an imaginary God as the creator of our universe, against the philosophy of agnosticism which prohibits thinking over the creation or its creator. Thus, existence of God or its non-existence also came within the purview of agnosticism, or in other words - whether God exists or not, is unknowable.


Thus, the concept of God is philosophically irrelevant to humanity and its onward march for a better world tomorrow. scientifically also, it has no foundation. Science has been trying to deal with the issue of creation, form, etc. of the Universe. Since science does not deal with any issue in philosophical terms, and agnosticism is a philosophical issue, these two ways of gaining knowledge are unrelated to each other, so do not interfere mutually.

False Beliefs and Ideas

A noted thinker, Thomas Jefferson noted, “It is always better to have no ideas than false ones; to believe nothing, than to believe what is wrong.” The advice sounds good and accepted by one and all to be truthful. But the theist's world does just the reverse of above in-spite of its accepted truthfulness. The fundamental question that arises and need to be answered is what is the test for a falsehood of an idea or some belief being wrong.


human civilization has come a very long way to be a regime in its own right parallel to that of Nature. In many spheres of life, the nature's harshness is isolated from human life to eliminate its dangers to survival. As a result, mortality is reduced and longevity is enhanced. Hence, the Nature is no more supreme, or in other words, human intellectual resources, which have taken the human civilization so forward, have proved to be super to be treated at par with Nature. Further, potential of human intellect seems to be boundless and it can do much much more in future. The essence of this statement is that humanity can and must rely on its intellectual resources for all purposes of life including ideas and beliefs.


The idea of God and belief in it have never been verified by human intellect and to circumscribe the problem of verification, theists declare this idea beyond knowing by human intellect. As such the concept of 'agnosticism' is forwarded in support of this unknowability. Assuming, for a moment, that 'agnosticism' is correct, then what is that which created the concept of God, where did it come from, and how the humanity came to realize existence of God, if it is not from the human intellect. Let there be something agnostic in the universe, then why should humans bother about it if it is beyond knowing through human intellect, the best resource the humanity has at its disposal.
Living Without God: New Directions for Atheists, Agnostics, Secularists, and the Undecided


The fact of the matter is that idea of God and beliefs in it are mischievous creations of some humans through misuse of their intellect to mislead the humanity into an arena of false beliefs. This misleading became a thriving business for a large population all over the globe which has been finding newer ways to reinforce this false belief amongst innocent people.

Concept of God blocks Rational Thinking

Whole philosophy of God is based on mere faith in the unknown. This faith is created through terrorizing minds of the subjects by something unknown. People don't often know future events but have a desire to know. An alternate of knowing the future is provided by the concept of God, which preaches not to try knowing the future but to leave it to the unknown forces known as God. Thus, the concept of Gods blocks thinking on the future.


Future is solely governed by the past through cause-and-effect principle. Therefore, if humanity knows the past events and their effects, knowing the future becomes possible. This needs a rational thinking. Blocking efforts for knowing the future is equivalent to blocking rational thinking. Rationality is not only a product of intellect but is also a measure of this. Blocking the rationality is paramount to blocking the human intellect.


Humanity differs from other species of life in its highly developed intellect only. Therefore, blocking use of intellect is blocking rational thinking and blocking the most precious asset of human-beings - the intellect. This derives to the fact that the concept of God, the Theism, is anti-humanity.


Most of us are prone to adopting the most convenient paths in or routine lives. The concept of God provides the most convenient way to living through replacement of thinking and making efforts by faith in God. This was probably the reason for evolving this nasty concept by enemies of humanity to degrade the humanity and its intellect.

Atheism - The Reality

The words 'Atheism' and 'Atheist' are derived from Greek roots 'Atheos' which means non-existence of Theos'. So, an understanding of these terms starts with understanding of the word 'Theos'. My research work of nearly 20 years now is focused on 'Theos'. I would like to put fort my views here.


Theo was an ancient race originally residing on the piece of land now known as Thailand, which should have been 'Theoland' indeed. Theos had a great family of Purus about 2,500 years back from now. On expansion of the family and their confidence of building a vast civilized humanity, three brothers of the family Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar, moved to a vast piece of flat fertile land, now known as Indian subcontinent. Here, the rivers were in plenty to provide potable water and they decided to make human settlements in areas covered by rivers Ganga and Yamuna in north India. Here Theos were called as 'Devas' who developed a new language 'Devnaagaree'. They also recorded their scientific developments and historical facts, as 'Vedas' and Puranas, the most precious scriptures of India even today.


At that time, this piece of land had forests all over with sparse human population which neither knew agriculture not had techniques of building houses. Purus started clearing forests, building houses for the population, processing minerals obtained from the land and started cultivating land for growing food-grains. Their achievements were great and the land soon became rich in wealth and human population. They started trading their commodities to other human populations, particularly Greece, another citadel of human civilization at that time.


At that, many human races were wild wandering from place to place to ward off hardships of temperature variations over climatic cycles. It soon became their profession to attack civilized human populations, particularly the Greeks, and get away with whatever they could find for their consumption. These races were mainly on the piece of land now referred to as West Asia.


Reputation of India as a rich land soon reached their ears also, and they arrived in India in the name of spreading a religion - Judaism, and settled themselves in southern part of Indian subcontinent. Soon Krishna became their leader who used to pose as an incarnation of God. Struggles between Theos and Judas ensued culminating into a world war referred to as 'Mahaabhaarat', in which Theo group was defeated. This war was participated by Alexander from the side of Judas and Aryans on the Theos side.


To eliminate the reputation of Theos from the people's minds, the Judas mistranslated the scriptures in another language now known as modern Sanskrit to spread concepts of religions and God through these scriptures. For this purpose, real meanings of terms used in scriptures were altered to serve their nasty purpose of misleading the people. These nasty translations are still popular in India. They also spread that Theos were imaginary super-natural divinities, different incarnations of God. Thus, the word 'Theo' became synonym with 'God'.


Those believing in existence of God are now known as Theists, and those opposing this misleading concept are Atheists. Here, it is noteworthy that Atheists are not anti-Theos, but only anti-God.

Absolutism and Genesis of Atheism

Whatever we know, we know it with reference to something else or we can say that we live in a relativistic world. Things are known as bigger or smaller relatively, as black or green as compared to assumed names of different shades, of this or that size as compared to a given scale, etc. All such examples prove that human brain perceives things in relation to some thing else used as a reference, and not anything in absolute terms.


Hypothesis of God or theism is based on absolutism of this concept, so is beyond human perception. And whatever is beyond perception, can not be even put forward even as a hypothesis honestly. This proves that absoluteness of God is hypothesis put forward with malicious intentions to confuse people and do a fraudulent business in the field of Godliness.This is the basis of agnosticism.


Another meaning given to 'absolutism' is 'knowing something fully'. Although this definition is not correct, even knowing a thing fully blocks further efforts of knowing the thing in more detail through scientific investigations, and thus is paralyzing to human curiosity. Since, knowledge base about everything remains always expandable, no knowledge is or shall ever be absolute. So even this definition of absolutism is infeasible.


When we always have limited knowledge, we can never say anything with surety. What may be best said is with relative to the current knowledge base of humanity which is ever expanding. Any malicious element in this knowledge base gets also expanded through hypotheses after hypotheses. In case of theism, these are made prevalent in society through terrorizing people in the name of a super-power named God, which no body knows.


As a general rule, people get afraid of unknown things and forces. Since God remains unknown since its inception about 2,500 years back, its terror continues in the minds of people which some cunning business-persons of this field take undue advantages thereof. this is the reason for genesis and continuance of theism in the world.


Nobody need to oppose a concept if it is not demoralizing to humanity through terror. Since, theism is used to terrorize people and dehumanize them, a counter-attack became necessary giving birth to atheism.

Faith and Intellectualism

Faith and intellectualism are two opposite ends of ideology of an individual. In faith, the person believes in the matter without questioning its authenticity. this amounts to blocking the intellectual component of the person's personality. In intellectualism, the persons verifies the authenticity of a matter before him/her and believes only when the matter is found to be true. In this way of believing, the person makes full use of his/her intellect and in the process sharpens it further.


Intellect is the most precious attribute of a human-being making it superior to all other species of life on earth. So, it is distinctive of humanity and without this or without making use of it, the human-being is like any other animal, or in other words, the intellectualism is true humanism.


All matters of God, religions, spirituality, etc. demand faith of people without questioning, or without any intellectual intervention by the person, so are contra-humanity. And conversely, atheism is the real humanism. All faithfuls are just like beggars who live on others' mercies.


All humans have curiosity as a natural instinctive attribute, and curiosity includes knowing a thing in its depth trough use of logic and/or intellect. Use of logic and intellect is intellectualism and need no blind faith. Thus, atheism is an instinctive gift of nature for all those having intellect, and conversely theism is artificial and anti-instinctive.

Science and Religion

Every one of us faces confrontations of scientific facts and religious feelings. Religions, not being based on scientific methods and conventions, always feel inconvenience due to growth of scientific knowledge, and fight it to eliminate it. Religions put a person on infinite paths of hope and which is never fulfilled. But the hope keeps the person engaged in itself without any results.


Religions preach following something of ancient origin with no margins for updating. Since, knowledge never gets saturated and tends to grow, nothing can ever reveal ultimate truths. This includes religions also which suffer from their built-in infinite inertia. Inertia is never a force but an opposition to dynamism. So, religions are opposed to dynamism of thinking which we humans are naturally gifted. Thus, religions are anti-humanism.


Sciences may not be revealing ultimate facts but always tend to moving in that direction so make a dynamic force to influence humanity. This dynamism is opposed by religions through their inertial attribute.


All religions tell us that God is infinite and so can not be known by finite human intellect. Scientific knowledge is also expanding and tends to extend to infinity, but is never assumed to be beyond capacity of, so-called finite, human intellect. This logic makes religions and sciences having mutually opposing notions.


Some religious experts claim religions to be sciences of humanism. Psychology is the greatest of sciences as far as understanding human behavior is concerned. It studies both possibilities - taming and expanding - of human mind. Religions use it for taming purposes to gather more followers. So, religions too make use of science of psychology, and up to this extent, their working is scientific - though a negative use of the science. Sciences are another name for rationality while religions have no rational basis and are based on mere hypotheses, so are not a science.

Atheism, Rationality and Religions

All religions fail on rational scrutiny so they disallow it and blame the scientific community, and particularly the atheists, to interfere in their matters of faith. But they never provide justification why even the faith should not be scrutinized. What is rational may be, many times, circumstantial and subjective, but this too does not mean that we allow anything irrational or be like this in our behavior and actions. From atheism point of view, however, there may always be a need to improve upon considerations of rationality.


What all religions flourish on is the terror of not remembering God and other Divinities, thus is a promotion of theism through negative feelings in the minds of people. Religious preachers often remind the people of the day of judgment after their respective deaths to terrify people and make them surrender to the imagination called God through the religions and religious agents. This has become a flourishing business all over the world with concentration in the developing and the under-developed world.


Absolute truth is always the only one and if God is the absolute truth, there can not be different ways to promote Him. This means existence of a single religion on the earth and that is 'humanism' mutilated, damaged and destroyed by multiple religions with vested interests.


The only logic for faith put forward by the theist is that 'seeing something is not necessary for believing in existence of that, it could be through information from those who had seen the thing'. But such a belief must be verifiable through actually seeing or through derivation by the subject if need be. Has anybody claiming to see the God shown it to anybody else? Such so-called divine souls simply play psychological games to make fool of the innocent people and thus misguide them to serve their vested interests.


Another school of thought which has come up to bypass rational scrutiny is 'fideism' which completely forbids rational scrutiny of faith. Indeed it is no thought in any way but just the empiricism.


Whole Nature is transient by its nature itself and this fact has been misused by the theist to preach the search of something stable and they call it God - just an imagination. How and why the stable God will create everything transient?

Another argument put forward by theists is the infinite universe which, they say, must have a creator. They forget and make others to forget that the Nature evolves through its transitory nature, and the whole creation is the result of this evolution. Nothing has been created in a moment but everything has evolved through cause-and-effect principle of Nature.

Atheism and Secularism

Secularism is not discriminating between various religions and faiths by the society, and when this principle is applied to the State, it means freedom of all policies and matters of the State from all religions and faiths. This perceptional difference between the society and State creates a great contradiction as far as whole humanity is concerned. This is because of the religions and faiths being imposed on the humanity artificially to serve vested interests of a few. Conversely, the concept of atheism being quite natural to humanity supports secularism in both the sectors - society as well as State.


If the concept of religion were natural to the humanity, there could be no multiplicity of religions on the earth. In that case, that only religion would have been religion of humanism needing no atheism and no secularism. Multiplicity of religions also proves their falsehood. And this falsehood itself has given rise to the concepts of secularism and atheism.


Ensuring existence of a secular State has the greatest difficulty from religious/theists persons in political authority. They can't be free and fair to followers to all religions for their individual biases because a person is first an individual, then a family-person, then a social creature, and lastly a political authority. Since, the first three of these statuses of the person have religious biases, his/her fourth status can't be free from this bias. So very existence of theism and religions mars possibility of a secular State unless those in political authority are atheists.


A religious person may subscribe to secularism by recognizing everyone else's rights to follow faiths of their individual choices. But, the religious persons are regularly persuaded to be fanatic about their respective religions, and this influence, they forget rights of others and follow path of secularism. Conversely, an atheist is by own nature itself is certainly a subscriber of secularism by heart and mind. Other humanistic aspects that the atheists have above all creeds of religious people are discussed below.


Fairness without Fear
Some of the theists follow path of truthfulness for their belief that God is observing all their deeds and if they speak a lie, they shall be punished by Him sooner or later. Although such a fear is baseless, this has a sobering influence of these theists. This is good for the society in some way, but is not right from morality point of view. Doing something under fear is against human moral standards. Apart from these few God-fearing theists, all others know it in their heart and mind that the very concept of God is a falsehood and aimed at cheating others. Higher the level of theistic displays in the person, more is his/her knowledge about falsehood of the concept of God. This makes them more immoral than anybody else. Conversely, all atheists have no fears and are thoughtful and courageous persons. For these attributes, they stick to moral values and stay fair under all circumstances without any fear.


Unbiased Opinions
Atheists are free from religious biases and their multiplicities, so they have a higher possibility of having a free and fair opinion on any matter related to humanity. Because of an all-pervading influence of religions, a religious bias touches all aspects of life of a theist and prevents his/her mind to think freely and fairly as a matter of habit. Religious institutions add fuel to this fire against humanity. This also mars their thinking capabilities.


Truly Democratic
All religions of the world have evolved to be autocratic in nature and functionality in line with the imagined autocracy of God. Thus, in the realm of God and religions, there exists no possibility of a true democracy which is so far considered to be best system of governance of a humanity. Thus religions and theism bias the people in favor of anti-democratic autocracy which is against the evolved conscience of humanity to be democratic. It is only the atheists, who can afford to be truly democratic.


Free Thinkers
All religions are dictum of their prophets and divinities and no body is ever allowed to speak against them. Some religions even prescribe inhuman punishments to those expressing their free thoughts on God and religions. Out of these, arts have limited roles of entertainment in human life while sciences influence every aspect of it leading the humanity to be more civilized and more creative. On the other hand, atheists are of scientific temper and they are atheists for their being of scientific temper and continuously nourishing this trait of theirs.

This drives the point that true secularism could be achieved through wiping out all religions from the earth. Further in that case, no secularism will ever be needed.

The Virus of God and Religions

It is now, we need to act fast to save the humanity from onslaughts of religions.


Religions are designed the way they are and shall be working to achieve their goal through hypnotizing the people. Their stings carry the virus of God which need be eliminated to save the humanity. It is like fighting malaria by making mosquitoes devoid of the malaria infection.

Knowledge versus Faith in Religions

I have a copy each of a compilation of all the Vedas, Vishnu Puran, Geeta, Quran and Bible on my bookshelf and people visiting me get surprised to see these and ask me point blank, "You claim to be an atheist, yet why do you have all these religious books?" and I quickly reply, "To know the religions." And I believe that is the general trend about all the atheists on the globe. Conversely, I visit my religious friends and foes and find them boasting about their own religion and criticizing all others, without ever reading a book on the subjects. Their knowledge about religions remains limited to what they learn from their narrow communities.


Such an instance is confirmed by a recent survey wherein atheists and agnostics are found to surpass all other groups in their knowledge of religions. Now, we are here to survey what and why we must know about religions.


Whether one believes in some concept or refuses to believe, he/she is supposed to know it. Since, present human society has a majority of believers in religions and God, it s all the more important for the non-believers to know religions and God to counter the false beliefs of the majority. The survey also proves that mostly the ignorant people are believers in religions and God.


Knowledge is power of humanity over all other species of life, and through it only we come to differentiate between the right and the wrong. And surely, knowledge does not mean believing. It is all the more needed for not believing.


Believing in something distracts the person from knowing about the alternatives, and deeper the faith more is the distraction. Multiplicity of religions proves fallacy of universality of religions and God which every religion claims. I mean to say if religions are there to preach the universal facts of life, as they claim, why there should be so many versions. This proves that some religions are misleading the people and so the believers must try to know more of other religions.


Most of the religious persons know more of the history rather than the preachings and their basis of their own religions, while the latter must play more important role in developing faith in the religion. Through history, these religions create an alliance of followers with the pioneer of the religion and then prove the pioneer to be a great soul and make him their deity. While an atheist probes the teachings and judges the religion on their basis. For the religious persons, they develop a faith in the person rather than his teachings while their followers are supposed to follow the teachings. As a result, religious followers worship the pioneering persons ignoring their teachings in their lifestyles.


Converse to the above point, science is being adopted in everyday life of all of the humanity without knowledge of its fundamental principles and theories. This proves that science has more followers than the religions. And the atheism evolves from scientific analysis of religions and theism.


The Necessity of Atheism Thus, religions are being followed through ignorance of the teachings and their overall impacts on humanity while the atheism is being followed through application of scientific logic to lifestyles.

Positive side of Atheism - Humanism

When atheists say that God does not exist, religions are unwanted, spirituality is a fraud, etc. they are marked as reactionaries have nothing original to say without referring to the trendy religions and theism. This is right, up to some extent but not in its wholeness. In fact, they negate theism only because these are keeping a strong hold on the humanity and the humanity need be pulled out of this grip to have subscribers from the humanity. After all, they will not create anybody outside of humanity to be their supporter. So, the 'reactionary' label on the atheists is correct but there is nothing wrong in being a reactionary.


I have always been insisting that atheism is humanism while all religions divide the human society into fragments which go against the spirit of humanism. Theism has introduced competitiveness to human society while the humanism brought social order to itself through rejuvenating cooperation which was in peril in the days of wandering humanity.


The cooperation evolved by humanism is being thwarted by theism through religions for serving vested interests. Thus, even theism is also a reactionary development against humanism. Indeed, there was no need for coining the word 'atheism' to counter theism. What people against theism were needed to do was and still is to insist on humanism to suppress theism.


Humanism is basic and original to humanity and theism was created to oppose its spirit of cooperation in the humanity. It is same as science being original for humanity and faith created to oppose the spirit of science. Science is basically the process of knowing through senses, while faith is not knowing but believing what others say. Thus, tussle between humanism and theism is same as tussle of science versus faith, and now the tussle between atheism and theism.


Another difference between science and faith is that the science evolves out of curiosity of humanity and so is dynamic while the faith is constructed and the construction remains static. For this reason, all faiths have remained the same after their origins while the science has been continuously evolving adding more and more to knowledge base of humanity. This however gives advantage to faiths for the human inertia to adapt to changes. For this reason, today the faiths have more subscriber while the sciences have a few. In the democratic world where numbers matter rather than quality, faiths have gained supremacy over sciences.

In-spite of the apparent supremacy of faiths over sciences, no human-being is living without getting advantage of the scientific developments while the faiths are ditching the humanity by raising partitions within each society and group of people.

Psychology of Atheism

Human psyche is convenience-oriented without bothering for logical rightness. This has been exploited by each propounder of religions and theism. This evolved many faiths in human society which are, undoubtedly, very popular among common people all over the globe. This was an initial development in social sciences which more or less supported theism as a consequence natural human psyche.


Exploitations of weak by the strong was also considered beastly attribute. Since humans too originated from their beastly past through civilized overtures over the time, beastliness is considered as a natural attribute ignoring claim of civilization to be a more human behavior. Indeed, human civilization and nature stand face to face against each other in this respect. Modern humans can not afford to be natural in any way, in-stead they have to be civilized.


Evolution of civilizations also included prevention of exploitations of the weak by the strong to gradually tame the beastliness of early humans. Civilization is not convenience-oriented but prefers to be discipline-oriented, whether convenient or not. Thus civilization works against convenience-oriented human psyche also. In such a confrontation of convenience and discipline, humans tend to slide towards conveniences ignoring their civilized developments. This tendency is also being exploited by theists for popularizing their viewpoints.


Although, theism is based on psychological exploitation, no theist is willing to accept this fact in public, even though most of them accept it in private. In public, they also preach prevention of exploitations of the weak by the strong, but still keep on working to exploit the psychological weakness of human mind due to its genetic beastliness wherein exploitation was rampant in its historical past.


Atheism is also natural as no infant takes birth with a religious leaning or as a subscriber to theism. It is the society which colors his/her conscience with religious fervor and inscribes in his/her brain seeds of theism. This is also a sort of exploitation of an innocent mind.


Exploitation is a beastly culture rampant in the natural world, while humans through civilized developments of their minds and cultures have been opposing exploitation of all sorts. Free developments of minds have always been targeted by right thinking people all over the globe since times immemorial. Such a free thinking frees individuals and societies from bondages of God and religions and make them atheists, the true human-beings.


Developments of physical sciences also impresses on human minds to think, get convinced through logic, and then follow their consciences. These sciences also disapprove existence of any God or other deities and need of having any faith in these misconceptions gripping the non-thinking irrational humanity.


Philosophically also, all those who thought deeply on the issue reached the conclusion that there is no need of any imagination or concept of god for humanity to move on its path of higher and higher civilization. To say that atheism has evolved through constructions of few individuals in the world is false. On the contrary, theism is a construction of nasty human minds to exploit the innocent minds of future generations in their infancies. Atheism is pure and natural.

Atheists in a Conformist Society

With rise in population, particularly in the third world, people have more problems and have to be more busy than they used to be earlier some 30 years back. Now they have no time to think on new ideas or in non-conventional ways. This has resulted in their becoming conformists. In-spite of more of educated persons in the society and their better lifestyles, they no more question views and opinions poured on them and accept whatever is told to them. It does not mean that they follow whatever is told to them, they simply say 'yes' to all to get rid of the non-conventional thoughts and ideas.


In all conformist societies, theism is found to be omnipresent in the life and blood of people, not because they pondered over this issue and accepted it as their choice, but because it was forced on them by some cunning persons to serve their own vested interests. Theism was preached for the first time about 2400 years ago in a well organized way and since then the preachings have been very regular and organized by the vested interests. During this period, theists of the world have remained thinly scattered and passive. This makes human societies composed of mostly theists. Many such societies have never heard of atheism even as a possibility. Atheism has been an extra-human word to them.


Who are atheists now? Recent researches in psychology have proved that atheists are more intelligent tan the theists in general. This is naturally proved by the fact that only a thinking person can be an atheist in the theist societies, and thinking is an exercise of intellect.


Theism is a business spread all over the world while atheism is no body's business. Therefore, theism is preached and propagated by those in business of God, religions and spirituality etc.Its wings have multiple dimensions like astrology, religious festivities and many such rituals spanning from birth to death of persons.


Atheism need no preachings because it is a concept of non-existence which neither can be proved nor need support. It is an escape from theism through logical thinking and so is naturally available to all species of life at the time of birth. Only human minds get corrupted by theism in the childhood itself. So only atheism is pure humanism.

God, Evolution and Reproduction

Charles Darwin's theory of evolution is the final word on evolution process of nature, it may only be added something but nothing can be subtracted from it. This theory is in clear contrast with the concept of God of theists and therefore supports atheism. here is a new light on evolution which again contradicts the human made concept of God.


On a deep pondering of the whole evolution process, I notice that working of nature is extremely inefficient from human angle of efficiency. Just see some examples. In a drop of semen of a human male, there are millions of sperms floating in a pool of sugar and during copulation process, they are provided a chance to be productive but only a single sperm is allowed to meet its counterpart - the female ovum. All the rest are destined to die after the ejaculation.


Even in women, the ovum is available for fertilization by the male sperm for about a week's duration after the mensuration. At all other times, all the male sperms reaching the ovary through male-female intercourses, are of no value and go waste.


In most of animal species, the females are made to produce off-springs after every heat cycle but only a few of the produced off-springs are able to survive the tough conditions of nature, provided no human-made medical aid is provided for the survivals. This is done by nature for keeping populations under manageable limits. Same was the case for humans in ancient times when medical science was not as developed as it is today.Developments in medical science to fight diseases have resulted into human population explosions in many parts of the globe making these unmanageable.


Humans have developed their own definition of production efficiency wherein rejections are reduced to bare minimum level. Management tools such as 'total quality management' (TQM) are even designed for zero rejections. Humans have created God as a perfect creator from their own point of view. Therefore, this human-made God must be following TQM. But all the natural creations, some described above, are extremely inefficient as far as human concepts are concerned. This proves the either the God is not a perfect creator or He is not the creator of lives on the earth. Or, thirdly, the human concept of God is highly misconceived. All these options prove the point of atheism.

Evolutionary Biology of Charles Darwin and its support to Atheism

On the ocassion of 150th anniversary of a great genius Charles Darwin, I think is good tribute shall be to study his influence on human thoughts up to this time and later periods. He proved to be the pioneer of a new branch of science called evolutionary biology. His contributions in the field may be summarized as -


1. Continuance of Evolution of Species
This has two repercussions - non-constancy of species and evolution being a gradual process without any break and suddenness. The first point states that no species on earth remains in the same state for ever but, according to the second point, keep on evolving gradually towards perfection without any discontinuity. Thus, evolution is an ever-going process working on each species on the earth and no change in a species takes place suddenly.


2. Branching during Evolution
This implies that all life forms descended from a single source and as the evolution of that source took place under different circumstances, new species came into being. This branching is the cause of present large number of species on earth and this number shall go on increasing continuously. However, some species for being misfit in their environment become extinct over a period of time. Thus, birth of new and extinction of existing species is a continuous process.
Before this theory was propounded by Darwin in 1859, Aristotle's notion of linear evolution was endorsed by many later naturalists, which assumed that all species took birth and went on improving themselves to become more and more suitable to their respective environments.


3. Natural Selection at the Core of Evolution
Since a species may evolve into different forms of life due to different environments, the nature selected only fit for survival and dismissing the misfits. This also implies that there exist no super-natural cause behind new species coming into being - in direct contrast to theist assumptions of a creator's existence and all forms of life being His creations. Thus, Darwin provided a foundation stone for atheism, which explains all natural phenomena scientifically and strikes theology at its root.


Natural derivations of these concepts of theory of evolution strike at the very root of general thinking of humanity to alter it to be more scientific rather than being faith-based. Some such points are worth mentioning here.


a. There is No Super-natural Power
Darwin's evolution theory explains every development of life materialistically and stresses that no super-natural power is involved in the process. This enabled humanity in explaining every natural phenomenon scientifically and thus provide strength to scientific culture of the world. This also discards theological descriptions of creation and life.


b. Refutation of Typology
Species on earth may be classified in to different types, but every individual in a type is unique and different from all others in the type. Thus, there are dissimilarities in similarities of life forms. The individual's uniqueness is due his/her level of evolution which is different for each individual. Due to this, every population keep on changing naturally to being better adapted to natural environment. This notion helps in linking history to society to scientific thinking.


c. Teleology is Invalid
According to Darwin's evolution theory, changes in nature are not directed towards any targeted results but are due to ever-ongoing evolutionary process of natural selection. This strikes at concept of fate of humanity which states that everything has a pre-determined future state and changes take place towards achieve that state.


d. Randomness is Universal
Darwin's theory states that things undergo production variations randomly and then out of these better-adapted things are selected for survival as a process of natural selection. This notion has been vigorously opposed by many scientists viz. John Herschel, Albert Einstein, etc. but still survives due to its unique explanation of individual's distinctiveness in populations of a species.


Thus, Atheism finds the most scientific support from Charles Darwin through his theory of evolution which is the only surviving valid theory of explaining natural changes taking place all around.

Before the God was Created

The concept and the word 'God' were not born when the first human child was born, nor these were found written on a rock by someone unknown. These were created by some human-being (Plato, to be very particular) for some purpose best known to him. But some of us shall like say that he did a great job while others like me feel that he misguided the whole humanity through this misconception. Anyway this is not the issue, I am here for, but for trying to understand what was in the human mind about the creation before the God was created.



The vast creation full of variety of animated and unanimated forms of matter was sufficient to generate a feeling of wonder in the minds of the people, and they must also be curious to know who created all this. Even theory of evolution was not available to them to quench their quest. They must have been a puzzled lot, but for their engagements in solving problems of their own survival. Since, they were wandering tribes in their limited regions, they might have considered the Earth to have boundaries somewhere far away from them. This was why the Earth was considered to be a flat disk before Galileo's concept of the spherical Earth was accepted.



In-spite of all the puzzlings, nobody ever thought that there has ever been a creator of the whole creation, else they would have hunted for him through their wanderings. Neither, they imagined that the creator is sitting somewhere in the skies. That was unthinkable for them. If there were any thinkers, they might have been sure that no creator can ever reside in his own creation otherwise where he was residing before the creation. This logic that the creator, if any, needed a place to stay, and that there was no place available before the creation, must have proved to them that they is no creator even though they failed to understand the whole process - the evolution. Plato provided a lame cue to all those curious minds of that time by his concept of God, to serve his own vested interest of establishing a psychological rule over the world through misguiding and terrorizing humanity in the name of God, and he proves to be very successful

Why do People Follow Religions

At the outset itself, I clarify that religion and spirituality are not different things but two sides of a coin. When we speak for one we are, at the same time, speaking for the other. While the religion is society-oriented, the spirituality is individual-oriented. Both assume existence of divinities and are based on super-natural perceptions.


Religious persons go to their places of worship to practise their man-made faith in man-made God and the spiritualists go to their places of meditation to practise their faith in man-made spiritualism, both practise faiths devised by by the mankind. Both the faiths produce some metaphysical effects on the minds of practitioners and charge them emotionally.


Religion


It seems that people attend religious services of their choosing for diverse reasons of which I can name a few. Some want to be closer to their God, some others like fellowships of other believers in those services, while most others feel they must attend because this was inculcated into their minds right from their childhoods and they are terrified - if they don’t attend they would be struck down by their God, destroyed and cast into Hell. Some want to learn and understand more about their own religious heritage and carry it forward. They have got faith and trust in what their parents or their caretakers taught them about their religion and they feel a certain obligation in following in their good parents’ and grandparents’ footsteps, come hell or high water.


Most of the creatures have an instinctive desire to produce offsprings and guide them to go the way they were taught to go, because they do not know any thing better than that and because the alternatives seem to be so daunting and so forbidding. Ordinary people don’t have faith on evolution of human mind over time. So, they maintain the status quo because it is safer to do than to take a chance on something new that may or may not be true or good in the spiritual or the religious sense. After all, isn’t it better to err on the side of what I was initially taught than to err on a side of what I think might be correct?


To take chance or gambling or betting on what is considered a sure-shot by majority and by the ancestors is considered to be a better option, irrespective of what one’s mind says. So, people place their faith in God and believe in waiting to return to that God from where they suppose they had come from. Some take the path of religions while some others follow spiritualism.

What is Spirituality

Spirituality is a misused word today. It has nothing to do with God or religion, but is generally considered to be so. Etymologically, it is about ‘life spirit’, which exists in all creatures, so spirituality is not limited to humanity only. It represents desire of a creature to keep on living. Religious people of the world have given it a new meaning - ‘knowledge of the self as an integral part of the almighty God’. This, they say, is achieved by ’spiritual awakening’, exercises, which is controversial because every spiritual guru tells a different method of this exercise. In science and mathematics, there are no ambiguities. If there exists an ambiguity in some phenomena, they are not scientific. So, spirituality is not a science, it is only a hypothesis.


Process of spiritual-awakening is a psychological game, played by a guru on his disciple, making him to believe that he is not what he is, but something else like a super-human, an integral part of the almighty God. This I call his ’super-consciousness’.


Super-consciousness of a person is his day-dreaming, wherein he imagines some super-hero role for himself and starts behaving in that role, like that in a drama. Since, the role is of his choice and satisfying to his desires, he feels satisfied and pleased. This relieves him of his some tensions for some time. But when the hero comes off the stage, he realizes his reality and feels miserable. As a result, he starts longing for a permanent role for himself. But his existence in the world brings him face-to-face with the realities, and he faces a disappointment, making him more miserable than what he was without a spiritual experience.


For hermits, who keep away from realities of the world, such fictitious spiritual roles suit and they fulfil their desire of remaining in their super-hero roles for longer durations. They are often treated as super-souls or ‘mahatmas’ in India. They are no better than the ordinary human-beings but for their factitious roles.


Why there is so much of hyp about spirituality all over the world? It is just because some persons are doing business of it and thus providing temporary day-dreaming relief to troubled innocent people just like a temporary shelter in a refugee camp. The victims of this business feel that their temporal relief is because of their limited exercise and hope to get a permanent relief in future, which never comes. The world today has a large number of satisfied preachers and advocates of spirituality but not a single satisfied practitioner.


To conclude, spirituality is an exercise of ‘bluffing the self’ for momentary pleasures.
